As members of the Brockton School Community, staff, parents, and students (and in consideration of an individual’s age, maturity, and diverse abilities), are expected to review and abide by the Brockton School Community Code of Conduct. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to promote Brockton as a safe, caring, orderly, respectful, and inclusive place to learn and grow

The Code of Conduct shall apply to all school activities, including those on and off school premises, during and outside regular school hours, on school coordinated transportation, during school-sponsored events, and when presenting/speaking as a member of the community, formally or informally The Code of Conduct may also apply to other circumstances, not necessarily related to school sponsored activities, that impact the school environment

The Brockton School Community Code of Conduct is included in the Annual Start-Up package and will be referenced throughout the year.

Note: In addition to the Code of Conduct, all members of the Brockton School Community are expected to follow the laws of British Columbia and Canada as well as Human Rights Codes and additional requirements.

ALL Members of the Community Commit to:

● Support Brockton’s mission and guiding principles.

○ Brockton’s Guiding Principles state that Brockton is a place where

■ Learning for life matters

● Prioritize safety (physical, emotional, psychological, social, and other)

● Respect privacy, property, policies, procedures, expectations, and other needs of the diverse community.

● Communicate respectfully and responsibly.

● Support regular student attendance and preparedness

● Support learning opportunities (in all areas - classroom, extra-curricular, and more)

● Support appropriate use of technology (responsibly, respectfully, and safely)

● Support academic honesty and integrity.

● Support environmental sustainability.

● Respect the neighbourhood and position/responsibility within our greater community in which we exist

● Be a positive ambassador of/for Brockton School.

● Learn, grow, be grateful, and have fun!

Brockton School Students Commit To:

● Demonstrate the IB Learner Profile attributes: Principled, Caring, Open-Minded, Reflective, Knowledgeable, Balanced, Thinkers, Inquirers, Communicators, Risk-Takers.

● Actively abide by student-related school policies, procedures, and expectations (including but not limited to the appropriate use of technology and academic honesty).

● Engage in safe behaviours, acknowledging personal safety, one ’ s impact on others, and the modelling of behaviours to other (sometimes younger) students

● Attend school, be punctual, and be prepared for lessons.

● Wear the correct, clean, and undamaged school uniform.

● Take responsibility for personal actions and belongings

● Take responsibility for one ’ s learning

● Help promote a safe, caring, respectful, and enjoyable school environment

● Respect one ’ s position of privilege and responsibility within the school community, the local community, and the greater community.

● Report concerns or ask for help as appropriate

● Strive to be an engaged member of the community

Brockton School Parents Commit To:

● Support one's child(ren) to understand and abide by the Brockton School Code of Conduct

● Actively abide by parent-related school policies, procedures, and expectations.

● Prioritize safety.

● Support one ’ s child(ren) to attend school, on time, and prepared.

● Support one ’ s child(ren) to wear correct, clean, and undamaged school uniform

● Ensure one ’ s child does not bring prohibited or high-value items to school

● Inform the school promptly regarding expected and unexpected absences (refer to procedures).

● Provide the school with important information that may be required (e g , updates for emergency contact information, medical updates, etc)

● Communicate respectfully with appropriate staff and using appropriate timing. Model for one ’ s child(ren) and progressively support them to self-advocate.

● Work with the school to address items collaboratively.

● Report concerns or ask for help as appropriate

● Support the diversity of the community

● Be an active and supportive member of the community by taking part in opportunities and/or initiatives. Support one ’ s child(ren) to be an engaged member of the community.

Brockton School Staff Commits To:

● Abide by professional standards, contractual commitments, school policies, procedures and expectations.

● Support others in the community to understand and abide by the Brockton School Code of Conduct as well as school policies, procedures, and expectations

● Promote the IB Learner Profile attributes: Principled, Caring, Open-Minded, Reflective, Knowledgeable, Balanced, Thinkers, Inquirers, Communicators, Risk-Takers

● Promote wellbeing.

● Support students to attend school, on time, and prepared.

● Support students to wear correct, clean, and undamaged school uniform

● Engage in quality teaching/learning that challenges, supports, and inspires students to want to learn (and to take responsibility for their learning).

● Keep parents informed about their child(ren) and school matters as appropriate.

● Report concerns or ask for help as appropriate. Share important information with appropriate contacts (e g , administration) while respecting confidentiality and privacy

● Support the diversity of the community and recognize every community member (not only the students) as unique individuals with different strengths and needs.

● Work collaboratively with colleagues and the community to foster lifelong learning opportunities through academic, physical, social, emotional, and personal growthwithin a local and global context

● Be an active and supportive member of the Brockton community by taking part in opportunities and/or initiatives. Support others to be engaged members of the community.

Code of Conduct Violations and Follow Up:

● Consequences of behaviour that is deemed unacceptable will be addressed in a manner that whenever possible and appropriate, will:

○ focus on restorative rather than punitive practices

○ take account of the individual’s age, maturity, and diverse abilities

○ consider both intent and impact

● Every effort will be made to support individuals and to determine the root causes of behaviour

● Efforts will be made to secure confidentiality; however, school officials may have a responsibility to advise other parties of serious breaches.

● The school will take all reasonable steps to prevent any form of retaliation against a Community member who has brought a complaint forward of a breach of the Code of Conduct

By signing this agreement, I commit to acting ethically and respectfully toward myself and others I agree to uphold the principles outlined in this agreement and understand that failure to do so may result in disciplinary action by the school
