Brockton is one of a select group of International Baccalaureate (IB) World Continuum Schools hosting all four of the IB Programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP), and Career-Related Programme (CP). Brockton offers specialized courses and programs, led by specialist teachers, coaches, and mentors. Within these courses and programs, Brockton innovates to provide our students with what they need today and with what they will need in the future. Come graduation, students will be situated to pursue their post secondary aspiration of choice; and, even more so, they will be situated to pursue a life of passion and purpose.

Early Years & Primary Programme (PYP): JK - Grade 5
• Our Early Years Programme and Primary Years Programme (PYP) provide a joyful, inquiry-based learning experience for our youngest learners, laying the foundation for curiosity and a love of learning.
Middle Years Programme (MYP) - Grade 6 - Grade 10
• Brockton’s Middle Years Programme (MYP) blends academic challenge with personal growth. Students in Grades 6–7 engage in our unique POD Program, Grades 8–9 explore Discovery Electives and the Greater Good program, and Grade 10 students complete the MYP Personal Project.
Graduation Pathways - Grade 11 - 12
• In the final years, students can choose from multiple pathways: the IB Diploma (DP), IB CareerRelated Programme (CP), BC Ministry of Education Courses, or a hybrid option combining IB and BC Ministry courses, ensuring every student finds the right fit for their goals and passions.

BROCKTON EARLY LEARNING Junior Kindergarten & Kindergarten
Brockton’s Early Years Programme (EYP) encompasses both Junior Kindergarten (JK) and Kindergarten (K) and uses the framework of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). Within the EYP, research-informed practice supports Brockton’s youngest learners as they begin their educational journeys and sets them up for success in later years. The programme emphasizes social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, helping children build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning from the very start.

As teachers continue to pursue authentic connections, each student in Grades 1-5 is recognized for their unique interests, abilities, and personalities.
Grades 1 - 5 are taught through an inquiryled, transdisciplinary framework, where strong foundations in numeracy and literacy are intentionally embedded. Students have the opportunity to explore local and global issues in real-life contexts as they learn between, across, and beyond traditional subject boundaries.
Brockton recognizes the needs of the whole student (including social and emotional growth, and mental health and well-being) and supports students in becoming caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. Like other divisions of the school, the teachers work in partnership with parents, students, and various community supports to develop optimal learning circumstances.

MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME
The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people. Building a solid academic foundation, it develops the students confidence in managing their own learning and making connections to the real world.
The result is young people who are creative, critical, and reflective thinkers and who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. Students are well prepared to move into their graduation years.
THE GRADE 6 & 7
POD
At Brockton, students transition from the Primary Years Programme (or from other programs if new to Brockton) to the Middle Years Programme via the POD. The POD is a purpose-built program for Grade 6 and 7 students that offers a supportive transition, helping them thrive academically and personally while honouring the unique needs, interests, and growth of this stage of their development.
The POD acts as a self-contained community within the wider Brockton community, creating a safe space for students to dive into their studies, discover identity, build self-esteem, and develop social skills.

The Grade 10 program is both the final year of the Middle Years Programme, as well as the first year of the Ministry of Education Graduation Program (Grade 10-12).

Students in Grades 11 & 12 at Brockton are offered a choice in their journey to graduation. The Pathways to Graduation allows students to choose a program of learning that suits their aspirations, interests, and strengths, while building globally-minded and confident young people who are not only well-equipped for post-secondary life, but are also filled with a sense of purpose and self-awareness.

IB Diploma Programme
The Diploma Programme (DP) is a rigorous academic program that aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge, and who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
The DP at Brockton recognizes the student as more than their academic potential, and focuses on developing well-rounded individuals. The curriculum is holistic, developing not only outstanding academic skills but also self-awareness, self-esteem, self-confidence, autonomy, compassion, and self-reliance.
Students gain insights into their own interests, personalities, and values, as they take courses on ethics, community engagement, and personal and professional life skills.
IB Career-Related Programme
The Career-Related Programme (CP) of the IB allows for more hands-on and career-specific study. The curriculum places emphasis on building both academic and practical skills, resulting in adaptable career-ready learners.
At Brockton students in the CP benefit from meaningful relationships with community and industry partners, including local universities. Alongside their more traditional academic courses, students gain insights into their own interests, personalities, and values, as they take courses on ethics, community engagement, and personal and professional life skills.
BC Dogwood Diploma
The BC Certificate of Graduation or “Dogwood Diploma” is awarded to students who successfully complete the provincial graduation requirements. At Brockton, the Dogwood Program is an enriched inquiry-based academic program where students are supported to become educated citizens equipped with the knowledge, competencies, and skills they will need to transition successfully into higher education and careers.
Hybrid Program
The Brockton Hybrid program allows for a combination of IB Diploma courses and BC Ministry of Education designated courses. Students in this program benefit from both the rigorous IB framework, as well as the comprehensive provincial curriculum. The Hybrid Program allows students the freedom to pursue subjects that both interest and challenge them.
INTEGRATED, ENRICHED, & EXTENDED PROGRAMMING
OUTDOOR EDUCATION
At Brockton, we are lucky to be located in one of the world’s greatest natural environments. We know the importance of taking learning outside of the classroom, and have built a world-class outdoor education program to ensure we make the most of our surroundings.
Brockton’s Outdoor Education (OE) program has been purpose built to provide a healthy, safe, and age-appropriate learning environment, and experiences that are complementary to our school’s robust academic program. Students are challenged to develop leadership, engage in authentic collaboration, and become active stewards of their local and global environments. The program empowers learners to build a positive relationship with nature, promote and advocate for sustainability, and prioritize mental and physical well-being.
The OE program offers a variety of activities including hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, bouldering, camping, shelter building, survival skills, flora and fauna identification, First Peoples Principles of Learning, and various outdoor sports.
LEADERSHIP & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
One of the most unique aspects of student life at Brockton is our model of student leadership. From Grade 4, students have the opportunity to join various leadership teams that allow them to explore their potential and develop skills for life.
Junior Leadership
The Junior Leadership Team provides opportunities for students in Grades 4-6 to explore their leadership potential and develop the communication and thinking skills needed to take action in their community. This initiative offers potential experience in a variety of fields, as well as allowing students to test out various roles within a leadership structure.
Community Action Teams
Students from Grade 7 up have the opportunity to join one of our Community Action Teams (CAT teams). The CAT teams aim to develop student initiative, passion, and leadership through collaborative student-led campaigns. Each team focuses on a different pillar of community action, and helps to organize events, fundraisers, and service opportunities within and outside of the school.
ARTS
Brockton’s fine arts programs challenge students to see themselves as artists, take risks, and create meaningful pieces of work. In the Junior School, students’ curiosity and creativity are at the forefront as they create and explore conventional and unconventional art mediums, tools and techniques. Senior School students may explore ideas related to topics of politics, identity, social justice, racism, or the environment through a wide variety of art mediums including drawing, painting, textile, sculpture, collage, pottery or printmaking.
Brockton’s music program fosters a compassionate, global consciousness through the act of creating and sharing music. In addition to the fundamentals of music theory, students purposefully learn to collaborate, persevere, problem solve, create, and see beyond themselves to the group as a whole.
Our internationally recognized World Music Program ensembles have traveled across North America, Asia, and Europe, and have played at music festivals, charity benefits, and in some of the most famous concert halls in the world - with highlights to Carnegie Hall in New York, and The Golden Hall in Vienna.
ADST (Applied Design, Skills & Technologies)
Students engage in Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) as a hands-on, experiential program that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. Rooted in design thinking, ADST encourages learners to explore real-world challenges with empathy and imagination, while developing the practical skills needed to bring their ideas to life. Drawing from diverse disciplines—including Business, Entrepreneurship, Culinary Arts, Information and Communications Technology, Technology Education, and traditional and First Peoples practices—ADST empowers students to design, make, and apply solutions that are both meaningful and relevant in today’s world. In doing so, they gain the adaptability, problem-solving mindset, and confidence to thrive in the future.
EXTRACURRICULARS
Brockton strives and excels at creating opportunities beyond solely academic growth. Students are supported and encouraged to try new things and make time for the activities they enjoy. Our extracurricular programming compliments the academic curriculum by providing further opportunities for students to develop leadership, learn new skills, and build connections across grades.
Athletics
Brockton offers a plethora of athletics teams. The Athletics program offers students the opportunity to improve their physical abilities, boost their mental wellbeing, and develop teamwork skills. Our teams compete in various competitions throughout the Lower Mainland, BC, and beyond. They often participate in friendly matches and tournaments with other local schools and teams.
Clubs
Brockton offers a wide variety of clubs, ranging from math club and robotics to drama and Duke of Edinburgh. Our clubs offer opportunities to build on skills learned in the classroom, develop new skills, and try out new activities. Offerings vary throughout the year, providing the chance for students to explore their personal and diverse areas of interest.
Cub Club & Cub Care
Brockton offers an extended day program for our youngest learners called Cub Care/ Cub Club. Delivered by an in-house team of professionals, this program provides students time for homework, structured and unstructured play, and making meaningful connections with peers.

Brockton School is a partnership between students, teachers, parents, family and friends. We have a connected and active parent community. Our Brockton Parent Community’s (BPC) primary initiative is to enhance the community experience for students, families and guests. The many events like the Back-to-School BBQ and the Wine and Cheese reception, but also many other connection points such as Grade get togethers for hikes or coffee, a Gala, a golf tournament, Grandparents tea and many more. The BPC is also involved as Class Parents and helping to host other fundraising events.
