Bishop Haller is an exceptional leader and truly a pastor to the pastors of Iowa. She is a visionary who is driven by purpose, passion, and missional priorities. SPIRE Join us this Lenten season for a special worship series. Broadway's spire is a beacon of life and light in downtown Council Bluffs and her people and ministry offer faith, love, and a bridge of hope from the many forms of poverty. Hear the stories of Broadway's people: Perspiring, Inspiring, Aspiring, Conspiring, Respiring, Suspiring, and Transpiring for the call of community at its best.

Easter Flowers and Tuesday Ministry Fund You will again have the opportunity to purchase flowers or donate to the Tuesday Ministry Fund (formerly Pastor's Fund) in memory of or in honor of a loved one. Easter lilies, hyacinths, and tulips will decorate the Sanctuary

on Easter morning . We ask a $12.00 donation for each flower you wish to purchase and you are welcome to add to your donation or give solely to the Tuesday Ministry Fund.

Beginning March 12th a form will

be available in the Sunday bulletin, on the website, and from the office for you to complete your memorial and honorarium information. A list of your loved ones will be in the bulletin on Easter morning.

Confirmation

BY PASTOR LANETTE PLAMBECK To those eligible for 2017-18 Confirmation Class and Families, For those 7th grade and older, we will be having an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 8th at 5:30 in the Chapel (main level) for potential confirmands and their parents/guardians. We will have an overview of how confirmation will run and hand out important information and dates at that time.

Confirmation is a time of faith formation and an intentional way of

connecting with the United Methodist heritage and local church family as you develop your own personal beliefs and explore what it means to live your faith daily.

One way to enhance your confirmation journey is to attend worship services. There are two opportunities to worship on Sunday: the Cornerstone service at 8:30 am and Proclaim service at 10:30 am. We would also love to see you at our Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, March 1st at 6:45 p.m.

Other opportunities to get involved are : Breakthrough on Sundays at 6:30; Youth Group every Wednesday with dinner at 6:00 and fellowship from 6:307:45; Bibles & Coffee meets at a local coffee house the second and fourth Thursday (place and time will be announced). We also have local service projects, Tennessee Mission Trip, Summer Games, and a host of other ways to find your step on our Pathway of Discipleship

At the Foot of the Cross

It is again time for us to tell the story of God's grace demonstrated in the person of his son Jesus.

We tell versions of it every Sunday, but once a year, we tell it in a special way--at the foot of the cross, as we journey again with those characters and see where they take us and what they have to reveal to us about God's love.

The story meets us where we are, but it doesn't allow us to stay there --it encourages us to respond.

Like seeing a glass set too close

to the edge of a table, we are compelled to move it--so it is with the cross and all those supporting characters in the gospel: our beings cannot witness them without a response. Whether it be mocking disregard of the unrepentant thief or the birth of recognition in the flogger who sees something different in the beaten and bloody Jesus, the cross compels us to respond--to recognize ourselves in this ancient and life-altering story.

At the Foot of the Cross tells the story of those who were present to the life, the miracles and the death of Jesus, letting us see the story through their eyes and in their words. In this season, be reminded of the One who through the cross, gives us freedom from sin and death, and in the telling of the story, may you be moved to see your place and purpose in God's kingdom.

author Tom Berlin encourages us to reflect and meditate through our own brokenness, showing us that it is only when we focus on the cross as a place to surrender control that we can leave our mess and find true redemption.

March 8—April 12 A Way Through the Wilderness | By Rob Renfroe In the Scriptures we see that often God’s people went through a wilderness experience, and these experiences changed them in profound ways. The truth is that it’s impossible to go through the wilderness without being changed.

There’s a way through the wilderness that can leave us broken and

bitter and far away from God. But there’s another way through— God’s way—that leaves us with a deeper faith and draws us closer to God than we ever imagined.

With sensitivity and warmth, Rob Renfroe explores the wilderness experience—what it is, how we get there, why God allows it, and

how we can get through it God’s way so that we learn the lessons that can be learned only in the desolate seasons of life when we are totally dependent on God.

The Divina Series Let's get together in non-traditional settings to talk and discover what God is up to in the community, church, and within ourselves. Groups meet at 6:30 p.m. on scheduled dates.

Participate LAYETTE KITS—It is time to collect items for Layette Kits. Last year, with your help, we were able to provide enough items to complete 29 layette kits. We will be collecting your donated items this year from March 1 to April 30. You may bring them to the office anytime or to the Information Desk on Sunday. Pick up a list of the items and special requirements at the Centrex Information Desk during Lent. All items must be new and unwashed. You are invited to donate as many items as you like or even a complete Kit if you are so moved. Cash donations will also be appreciated to cover shipping costs.—Sponsored by UMW

MOTHER'S\FATHER'S DAY JEWELRY\TOOL COLLECTION—Broadway Outreach Team is collecting gently used and new jewelry and small tool kits. Donations will be available for our neighborhood children to be able to "purchase" presents for parents, grandparents, and guardians as gifts for Mother's and Father's Day. Donations may be given to Jean Devine or brought to the church office.

Longfellow Partnership Longfellow Elementary is a proud member of the Council Bluffs Community School District located at 2011 South 10th Street.

Their pre-kindergarten through fifth grade staff believe students should always learn at high levels.

To propel these beliefs forward, they read, write, problem solve, investigate, use technology, and collaborate with others each day.

Along with content area studies, physical education, social skills, and the arts, Longfellow Elementary believe in educating the whole child. This is where Longfellow’s mission engages the vision of Broadway UMC as we pursue the goal of community at its best. We know we have a great opportunity to come alongside students to make a difference in

their lives. And as one life is transformed, community will be transformed! Stay tuned to other opportunities of collaboration and support as we work with the students and staff of Longfellow Elementary toward community at it's best.

United Methodist Women Bring a friend and join us on Thursday, March 9th at 1:00 pm in the DeLong Lounge when the United Methodist Women will sponsor a program featuring information on missions both local and worldwide. Guest speaker, Kristie Waller, will provide information about IMANA Kids and the work being done for a special group of

orphans in Africa.

40 Days for 40 Ways On Ash Wednesday, March 1st and throughout the season of Lent, you are invited to enter into a 40-day challenge that is designed specifically to enrich your Lenten experience as you connect with God, yourself, others, and creation. 40 Ways for 40 Days is designed to give tangible, achievable goals for each day of Lent that is intended to give participants a sense of partnering with

God on the journey to the cross.

Two of our “ways” include a coat collection for Palm Sunday, April 9th as we will line the aisles with coats, hoodies, sweatshirt, jackets and other items of outerwear.

Then a shoe collection of “Soles for Souls” that will run April 1st22nd to be celebrated at our worship service on April 30th. Just imagine the number of coats and shoes we can place around the

altar! And just like us, it doesn't matter the condition the coats and shoes arrive in--what matters is, they “shoe” up!
