kodama

healing retreat

The name “kodama” is derived from Japanese forest spirits. in traditional folklore these small pebble -like creatures look after the trees and have been known to heal weary travelers. They are seen as a symbol of good luck and longevity. the logo picturing an old and gnarled tree represents an unhurried journey to healthfulness.

v. (sheen-reen-yo-koo) :"FOREST BATHING" visiting the FOREST FOR IT’S restorative and HEALING BENEFITS .

Shinrin Yoku was first coined as a healing regimen in the 1980’s, and has continued to be a practice widely used in holistic medicine today. The instructions are simple, go to a forested area and wander.

Smell the aromas of the trees and listen to the water of the streams, let the sights, sounds and smells of nature wash over you. It has been proven that even fifteen minutes in nature leads to a decrease in blood pressure and stress, and improvement in concentration and mental clarity. The design of Kodama Healing Retreat harnesses these benefits with living plants, raw and natural finishes and a floor plan void of dead-ends for ease of navigation. The modern simplicity of Kodama is derived from traditional Japanese architecture and design.

net effect by interface: in many impoverished fishing communities around the world, pollution from commercial fishing has brought the economy to a standstill. net effect carpet is made out of recycled fishing nets from these locations. interface pays the people in these communities to collect the nets which not only removes pollution but also serves as a form of income for these struggling societies.

armstrong linoleum: the materials that make up this product are 100% biobased, rapidly renwable, and 72% renewable content. there are no toxic adhesives, phthalatates, plasticizers or mineral oil. unlike many linoleum floors, there is zero off-gassing with this product.

All of the furniture in kodama is fluid in form. every seat is comfortable, but also has solid construction and a firm cushion so that clients with sore joints or back pain will not have any difficulty getting in and out of the seat.

The ceiling design in the yoga studio was derived from a phenomenon called “crown shyness” that happens when the canopies of trees avoid touching each other. This Creates river-like spaces where the sky peaks through the forest canopy. in kodama, glowing orbs take the place of the sky.

Woodfit Acoustics: These acoustic panels used throughout the spa are fiberboard faced with veneer in order to harness the beauty of wood in an efficient way. THe Fiberboard is manufactured from wood fibers sourced from forestry bi-product and co-products, allowing for the efficient use of materials that would otherwise be wasted. Woodfit acoustics is FSC certified.

Brentano eco leather: Polyurethane faux leather offers a greener alternative to vinyl (PVC). PVC contains chloride and is not degradable.

It leaches toxic additives in landfills and emits carcinogenic dioxin when incinerated. Brentano’s polyurethane faux leathers use a polymer resin that is degradable. wood fit acoustics
