ABOUT BRISTOL COMMUNITY COLLEGE

THE MACE

The ceremonial mace, carried at the front of the procession at commencements and inaugurations, represents the commitment and dedication of faculty and staff and their focus on student success and loyalty to the college and its mission. The mace symbolizes the college’s highest authority and is carried by the Grand Marshal during the ceremonial procession.

ACADEMIC REGALIA

Influenced by the historic academic dress traditions of Europe, the United States academic regalia usually consists of a gown, a separate hood and a cap distinguished by the wearer’s degree and field of learning. Traditionally worn daily, academic regalia is now typically worn at commencement and inauguration ceremonies.
