POLICE, CRIME AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR UPDATE 3 – 16 AUGUST 2022

CRIME STATS Over the last two weeks, reported crimes have reduced from 425 in the previous period to 291 overall.

Theft (91) and violence against the person (75) have experienced the greatest decrease however remain the highest recorded crimes.

INTRODUCING INSPECTOR JONATHAN SCOTT Hello to you all. I am Inspector Jonathan Scott and I am covering for Inspector Adam Dolling throughout August whilst he enjoys a well-deserved break. You may remember me from last year when I covered Adam.

I am the Clifton Neighbourhood Sergeant.

My team cover Clifton, Cotham, Redland and Bishopston and will be working out of the Bridewell from 1 October 2022.

This provides Adam with an extra team to resource protests and demonstrations and conduct licensing checks in the city centre.

This will ensure that more police officers are visible to the public. It will also mean we work closely and in better collaboration with our colleagues from the Central Neighbourhood Team.

INTRODUCING PC MAX SMITH Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself to you all. I am PC Max Smith and I have joined the Local Neighbourhood Policing Team as a beat manager for the Old City Docks area.

Before joining the police I worked as an Immigration Officer covering the Avon, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire

areas. This was a varied role that I enjoyed very much, meeting people from a range of different backgrounds, all with a very interesting story to tell.

I joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) scheme back in July 2020 and was initially based in Weston-super-Mare. I

enjoyed working in Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area, there was always something happening be it disorder in the town centre or herding cows that had escaped from their field!

I learned plenty of skills from my time in Weston Super Mare which I hope to bring with me to my new role.

I join the Central Bristol Neighbourhood team as the beat manager for the Old City Docks area, this is the area from Bridewell Police Station down towards M-Shed and across from St Augustine’s Parade to the Welsh Back.

I certainly have a passion for problemsolving and community engagement and hope we can work together to keep Bristol a safe and enjoyable area for both local businesses, residents and visitors to our city to enjoy.

I look forward to meeting many of you over the next few months.

PROJECT SERVATOR Project Servator is a policing tactic that aims to disrupt a range of criminal activities including Anti-Social Behaviour, organised crime and terrorism. It relies on police working with the community, businesses, partners and members of the public to build a network of vigilance and encourage suspicious activity to be reported.

It involves police carrying out highly visible and unpredictable deployments that can happen anywhere, at any time. The police

use highly visible uniformed officers, sometimes dogs, horses and vehicle checkpoints. As well as other less visible resources such as plain-clothed officers, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and CCTV operators.

If a Project Servator deployment pops up in your area, it is likely that one of the police officers involved will let you know what they are doing and ask you to be their extra eyes and ears. Please feel free to chat with them.

STREETWISE ARREST Streetwise Officers have recently arrested a 40-year-old male who was seen begging outside the Sainsburys Local in Broad Quay.

This male was currently wanted for breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on four separate occasions.

The CBO had been issued by Bristol Magistrates Court and is valid until 2024 with one of the conditions stating that he was not to beg. This male was detained in

Patchway custody overnight and presented to the court the following day.

This case has now been adjourned for sentencing until 6 October 2022 with conditions not to re-offend, work with the Probation Service by attending all appointments and evidence of his efforts with regards to obtaining a methadone script.
