AN UPDATE FROM LICENSING OFFICER PC CUTLER Nitrous Oxide Update

Licensed Premises Crime

From a licensing perspective, we have had success regarding the removal of Nitrous Oxide (NOS) from three additional city centre Off Licences where ‘Premises Notices under the 2016 Psychoactive Substances Act’ have been issued.

In the last three months, crime stats for licensed premises include 145 assaults, 54 thefts, 51 public order offences, 20 sexual offences and 5 robberies.

Selling NOS for human consumption is illegal. It is not compatible with the licensing objectives of public safety, public nuisance, and protection of children from harm. PC Cutler has asked night-time economy officers on duty to be vigilant to sellers.

Please remind customers, particularly in nightclub-style venues, to always keep their belongings in sight or make use of cloakrooms. Equally, please look out for vulnerable victims and suspicious persons and report any concerns to the police.
