WELCOME TO BRISBANE COMEDY FESTIVAL! I once told my wife she was drawing her eyebrows too high. She looked surprised. So, clearly, I’m not much of a comic, but hopefully one of the 40+ comedians from Australia and around the world at Brisbane Comedy Festival might give you more of a ROFL. I once had a friend who had a job circumcising elephants. The pay was lousy, but the tips were huge. If you’re after a free comedy fix, check out our weekly Knockoff series, as well as The Pineapple Club. Or stay out late with Chalkboard, where we gather a bunch of comedians from across the festival to do a ten-minute set of their favourite material. I once went to the park to play Frisbee with my dog. It was rubbish. I think I need a flatter dog. If your material is better than mine, try comedy workshops for adults with Dr Brown and for teens with Class Clowns. Or maybe leave the comedy to the professionals, and have some quality time with your friends, enjoying this amazing festival! And remember – never take the shell off your racing snail. It will only make them more sluggish.

THE ANTICHRIS

After sell-out shows in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney, acclaimed comedian Chris Wainhouse invites you for a stroll across the comedy rocks of blind faith and ultra-conservatism in his latest show. Born into an evangelical creationist household, Wainhouse has become the black sheep of the family after becoming a comedian and determining that the planet is 4.5 billion years old. His show is a side-splitting story of discovery and belief, and was nominated for Perth Fringe Festival’s Best Comedy Show award. The Antichris is a rollicking evening peppered with tongue-in-cheek humour, clever social commentary and hilarious personal anecdotes. Don’t miss it.

HANNAH GADSBY DONKEY

Donkeys, snakes and unicorns (to name a few) have been misrepresented throughout history. Hannah is here to tell you their other story. It will also be wrong but she will show you pictures and make you think differently about some animals you have probably already made your mind up about. Hannah has forged her own path as the preeminent, perhaps only, art historian/comedian combining an academic eye for detail with a class clown’s sense of stupidity. She has presented her unique comedy art lectures everywhere from New York’s Guggenheim Museum to London’s Kings Gallery and Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery.

Why don’t you visit? We didn’t come all the way to this country to see you waste your life on Apple watches and sextings! We are disappointed in all of you. Except Tony. You are a good boy. Give your grandmother a hug. Yes. Welcome to the Old Country. In their newest comedy show, ImproMafia will use your suggestions to improvise new and exciting tales from the Old Country, taking you through the journey of how your favourite grandparents came to be so disappointed in how you turned out. There will be biscuits. But only for good grandchildren.

DAVE O’NEIL IS NOT COOL

He’s starred in Spicks and Specks, The Agony of Life and Tractor Monkeys, and in this new show Dave invites you to decide if he’s cool or not. Is Dave cool or not cool? At least the theatre’s air conditioned so you’ll be cool when you decide.
