Dr Mahendra Meta is a Queensland-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialised in Adult Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery. He is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons in Brisbane with sub-specialty training fellowships in Adult as well as Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery (undertaken in Australia, New Zealand and India).

Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery

Dr Mahendra Meta is a Queensland-trained orthopaedic surgeon with sub-speciality training fellowships in both Adult Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery and Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery (undertaken in Australia, New Zealand and India). He has a unique understanding of treating hip and knee problems across all age groups which makes him a very versatile doctor.

He performs both primary and revision total hip replacements. He also has a strong interest in minimally invasive DAA (Direct Anterior Approach) hip replacement surgery.

He incorporates the latest technical & technological advances in surgery to improve accuracy, longevity of joint replacement, patient satisfaction and outcomes. This includes pre-operative computerized digital 3D templating/planning, robotic knee replacement surgery, "Verasense" sensor assisted surgery and patient-specific instrumentation.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Dr Mahendra Meta is an orthopaedic surgeon with sub-specialty training fellowships in Adult Hip & Knee as well as Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery (undertaken in Australia, New Zealand and India). He has extensive experience in treating hip and knee problems across all age groups.

Arthroscopic surgery is a common minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting a small camera and specialized instruments through keyhole incisions to view and treat musculoskeletal injuries. The arthroscopy procedure can help diagnose and repair a variety of injuries, such as sprains, strains, ligament damage, meniscal tears and arthritis.

Dr Mahendra Meta performs arthroscopic knee surgery for conditions such as knee arthritis, torn meniscal cartilage, and knee injuries from sports or other activities that cause pain or discomfort. He also performs less invasive DAA (Direct Anterior Approach) knee replacement surgery in certain cases.

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries can include sprains and strains, fractures, and dislocations. These injuries can happen during any sport, but they may also occur while exercising.

Dr Mahendra Meta performs a range of procedures to treat sports injuries. He specializes in arthroscopic knee surgery, as well as other treatments for knee injuries like ACL reconstruction and meniscal tears.

Surgical treatment is used when conservative therapies aren’t sufficient. These treatments include rest, ice, compression and elevation (RICE).

He also offers medication to relieve pain and inflammation. In addition, he can offer cortisone injections to speed healing.

Dr Meta has two masters degrees in orthopaedics and keeps up to date with the latest developments in orthopaedic surgery by attending conferences, meetings and workshops throughout Australia & internationally. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in orthopaedics and a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association

After completing a medical degree, physicians must complete a 5-year residency and a one-year fellowship before being licensed to practice medicine in the United States. This training is designed to help them develop a specific area of expertise and become highly skilled in that area.
