A QUICK GUIDE to
Brisbane Adventist College

WELCOME
We are so pleased that your family is part of the BAC learning community. Whether you are new to BAC, or are a returning family, we extend a warm welcome to you and your children.
Our leadership team, teachers, administration, and support staff are committed to providing a smooth transition and a consistent learning experience. Above all, we are committed to ensuring that each student learns about - and is shown - the love of Jesus throughout their time with us.
We value a holistic approach to education, aiming to ensure the spiritual, social, and personal development of each student, and support them as they grow academically.
We trust that your experience at BAC will be a blessing, and thank you for the trust you have placed in us to care for and educate your child.
Sincerely,

Peter Charleson Principal
WHAT WE VALUE

Brisbane Adventist College imparts far more than academic knowledge and skill. We foster the whole person — their spiritual, physical, intellectual, and social-emotional development.
IT IS OUR PURPOSE to reveal Jesus. Adventist Education exists because we believe in the profound love of Jesus and the hope, peace and joy that comes from knowing Him, and living with Him and for Him. We want to share this good news in our early learning services and school communities. We are intentional in everything we do — from our attitudes, words, and actions to reflect Jesus to our students, young children, families, and wider community.

IT IS OUR VISION to be a thriving Christcentred learning community.
Our desire is to build a dynamic, nurturing inclusive community so that each Adventist school and early learning service will be a lighthouse in their community – shining for Jesus, serving with care and excellence. Every level of our organisation is committed to working in harmony to build a vibrant culture of excellence.

IT IS OUR MISSION to enable every student to flourish.
Our belief is that students and young children will truly flourish when their spiritual, mental, physical, and social needs are met. We want to inspire and care holistically for each person – equipping them with the beliefs, values, and skills to live a life of purpose, hope, joy, and peace as a global citizen for Christ.

EVERYTHING WITH GOD
God is at the centre of everything we do. Our Christian values are integrated into our learning and social activities as we strive to shine His light and instil a Christ-like character in our students. We believe in a Creator God who encourages us to go out into His world to care for it, to learn about it, and to learn from it. We invite Him into our lives and into our school daily, as we study what He created.
OUR CORE VALUES ARE:
INTEGRITY Choosing to do what is right, regardless of who would know or what others might think or say.
RESPECT Practising integrity based on the Creator God’s code leads to the development of a deep sense of self-respect, which in turn leads us to respect others.
We believe that JOY results from living a life of integrity and respect. Joy is more than happiness, which is generated by external conditions; joy is a deep sense of well-being that comes from within and is evidence of the Spirit of God living within us.
The BAC Way
How our values and beliefs are lived, daily.
WE LOVE AND RESPECT GOD
We speak reverently about God and we share our love for Him with others.
WE LIFT OTHERS UP
We do not use put-downs, tease or bully others. This includes not sending hurtful electronic messages. We always look for ways to build and lift others up.
WE ARE ON TIME
We get to school on time and move quickly to each class.
WE LOOK SMART
We wear full uniform and we wear it correctly and with pride.
WE ARE CLEAN AND TIDY
We organise ourselves, and we do not walk past rubbish; we pick it up and put it in the bin.
WE ARE GOOD HOSTS
We greet each other, and all visitors to our school. We stop, smile and we say “good morning” or “good afternoon”.
Our values and beliefs as a school, lived daily, provide a safe and caring environment that allows students to learn, develop, and flourish.
WE RESPECT EACH OTHER
We use our correct names and titles, and make eye contact with others. We speak softly and kindly to all people.
WE LOVE LEARNING
We do our best in class and we do not interfere with the learning of others.
WE LOVE OUR COLLEGE
We speak well of BAC and we always look for new ways to better our school.
WE ARE SAFE
We do not risk our health and wellbeing or the welfare of others.
WE ARE GOOD CARETAKERS
We take good care of our property and respect things that belong to others.
WE ALWAYS DO OUR BEST
We always try to do our best in everything we do, including when we sing, play, learn and speak.

COMMUNICATION & ENGAGEMENT
We believe that effective communication between home and school is essential in creating a positive learning environment.
We value strong connections with families and encourage you to engage with your child’s learning and with what is happening at school as we partner in developing a community that supports the wellbeing and development of every student.

Communicating With Teachers
Connect Evening
We start the school year by inviting families on campus one evening to connect with each other, meet classroom and subject area teachers, interact with our support services (such as our Wellbeing Team and Enhanced Learning staff), and to visit their child’s learning environment. This event is an excellent opportunity to make yourself feel at home in the BAC community.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-teacher interviews occur at the end of Term 1 to provide an update on student progress, and at the start of Term 3, following the release of mid-year reports. These interviews are your formal opportunity to speak to your child’s teachers about their learning and wellbeing, but we also encourage you to contact teachers directly throughout the year if you have any questions or concerns.

Outside School Hours Care and Vacation Care (OSHC)
To support families who need additional care for their children, we facilitate an outside school hours and vacation care service through Extend.

Wellbeing Support
We are committed to student wellbeing, and our Wellbeing Team – consisting of two chaplains, student counsellor, and Wellbeing Coordinator, with support from our Enhanced Learning department – work to ensure our students can experience life at our College in a way that is safe, healthy, and nurturing.
Our Restorative Practices approach to discipline values kindness and responsibility and prioritises the restoration of relationships. It facilitates open, respectful communication between students and staff.
Our chaplains and counsellor also work with churches and the wider community to support the welfare of students, staff, and their families.
Students can access our student counsellor (subject to availability) following a referral from their classroom teacher.
POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Absences, Leaving Early, and Arriving Late
ABSENCES

Drop-off and Pick-up
We have several car parks and drop off points that you can choose from, depending on your situation.
DROP-OFF
• Gate 1 Car Park: best for Primary students, parents and carers can park and walk their children into campus. Please ensure that you vacate the classroom area once classes commence.
• Gate 3 Drop-and-Go: best for Primary students, parents and carers can drop off their children without having to leave the car.
• Gate 5 Drop-and-Go: best for Secondary students, parents and carers can use this drop off and car park for Secondary students.
PICK-UP
• Gate 1 Car Park: Prep and Primary student collection point. All Primary students being collected at this point must exit through the Prep Centre gate.
• Gate 3 Drop-and-Go: Access to Early Learning short-term parking and collection of Primary students (and any Secondary siblings).
• Gate 5 Drop-and-Go: Secondary student collection point and entry to limited car parking.
(Please note: Secondary siblings must walk to our Primary campus to join younger siblings; Primary students are
only permitted to walk to the Secondary campus – with a supervised walking group – to meet a parent or carer who works on the Secondary campus, walking home via Wishart Road, or catching a Council bus from Wishart Road).
Teacher supervision for students is from 8:05am to 3:25pm (Primary) and 3:35pm (Secondary). We are unable to supervise children on College grounds outside of these hours. For this reason, Extend Outside School Hours Care is available for the care of Primary students outside of the supervised time after school.
Learning and Resources
Primary Students: We provide all workbooks and stationery items, including homework cases, for Primary students.
Secondary Students: Secondary students are responsible for purchasing their own stationery. Book lists detailing requirements for each year level are available on the College website.
Learning Resource Centre (LRC): Each campus has an LRC containing books, textbooks, and databases to support student learning. During orientation, Secondary students receive their required textbooks for the year or term from the librarian. Students must maintain these textbooks in good condition for future users.
Some senior subjects require annual subscriptions to subject-specific databases. These requirements are listed in the stationery lists on the College website.

Homework and Assignments
From Prep onwards, students receive ageappropriate homework and assignments designed to support, consolidate, and extend their classroom learning. We encourage families to actively engage with their child’s learning at home.
In the early Primary years, this involvement might be as simple as reading together with your child. As students progress through school, homework becomes more complex and timeintensive, particularly from Year 7 onwards.
Medication and Illnesses
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority. As such, all staff members are first aid trained and qualified, and we ask that you keep your child home if they are showing signs of illness or feeling unwell. If your child becomes ill at school with symptoms such as high temperature, continuous cough, vomiting, or runny nose, we will contact you for collection. These measures help us keep our school community safe and well.
MEDICATION
Temporary Medical Conditions and Medications: Please notify the College in writing of any medication your child brings to school, even if they self-administer (Secondary students only). All medication requires written parental/carer consent, whether self-administered or schooladministered.
Illness Recovery Requirements : Students must remain off campus for 24 hours after
• head lice treatment
• last episode of vomiting or diarrhea
Permanent Medical Conditions: For ongoing medical conditions, parents/carers must record details in Consent2Go and provide current action plans or supporting documentation for conditions including allergies, anaphylaxis, diabetes, ADHD, and ASD.
Medication Requirements
• Prescription medication: Must be in original packaging with pharmacy label showing student’s name, prescribing doctor, dosage, and intervals. Requires written parental/ carer permission.
• Non-prescription medication: Must be in original packaging with pharmacy label showing student’s name, dosage, and intervals. Requires written parental/carer permission.
• Storage: Register all medication with Administration Office (Primary) or Secondary Student Reception (Secondary) where it will be administered.
• Recording: All doses are documented by Administration staff.
Other Policies and Procedures
Behaviour Management
The College employs a restorative approach to behaviour management. Where conflict occurs, teachers and the Wellbeing Coordinator focus on individuals taking responsibility for harm they cause, repairing that harm, and rebuilding relationships that result in a more positive community.
Contacting Students During School Hours
If parents/carers need to contact their child during the school day, please call the Administration Office. Students who need to contact parents/carers should also do so through the Administration Office or Secondary Student Reception.
Sports Houses
Each student is assigned to one of our three sports houses, and participation points are awarded for events on swimming, athletics, and cross-country carnival days as well as for other house events, including academic competitions.
Our sports houses are:
• Stradbroke (dolphins)
• Moreton (sharks)
• Fraser (dingoes)
Uniform and Appearance Expectations
The BAC uniform maintains a unified and professional appearance across our campus. Students must wear the correct College uniform daily and always present themselves neatly and tidily, including:
• Travelling to and from College
• College excursions (unless otherwise specified)
• Sporting events and training
For detailed dress standards and current Uniform Shop opening hours, scan the QR code or visit the College website.

Valuables and Lost Property
Student property found on College grounds is kept at the Administration Office (Primary) or at Secondary Student Reception for collection. Please clearly label all clothing and belongings with your child’s name to ensure quick return.
Valuable Items and Mobile Phones: We recommend leaving valuable items such as smartphones, tablets, and music players at home to prevent loss or damage. If a valuable item or amount of cash must be brought to school, we strongly recommend that both Primary and Secondary students hand these in to the Administration Office (Primary) or to Secondary Student Reception (Secondary) for safekeeping during the school day.
MOBILE PHONE AND SMART DEVICE POLICY:
• Primary students: If a mobile phone is needed for safety/travel purposes, it must be handed in at the Administration Office before school begins and collected at the end of the school day.
• Secondary students: Mobile phones are not to be kept on a student’s person during the school day (8:30am-3:15pm) and must be switched off and stored in their locker, or handed in to Secondary Student Reception for safekeeping.
Smartwatches (e.g. watches with message, text, and internet capabilities) are not permitted at school.
Visitors
All parents and visitors must sign in at Administration Office or Secondary Student Reception before entering the campus. This requirement ensures we maintain our duty of care obligations and campus security standards.
