Fillipo Brunelleschi

The project aims to
1. Develop a comparative design approach to analyse Italian renaissance piazza design with urban methodologies
2. Develop an understanding of Filippo Brunelleschi’s architectural design of piazza spaces
3. Experiment through mixed media historical urban design methods of Italian Piazzas
Use of digital collages to highlight similarities of Italian renaissance piazzas.
How did the design principles and spatial organization of Brunelleschi’s Piazza spaces influence the development of the Italian Renaissance piazza, and how can this historical context inform contemporary urban design practices?
This work highlights the central square piazza space created by the two main buildings. The first Filippo Brunelleschi’s hospital of innocents, the second the archeological museaum. The Piazza was the first of its kinds demonstrating Brunelleschi use of spatical organisation and harmony. I have attempted to demonstrate how Brunelleschi’s adopted the use of a piazza space for the people that pioneer the devlopment of renaissance urban design.
This work highlights the central piazza space and the surrounding buildings. Brunelleschi’s hospital of innocanets was the central structure that strated the Piazza of Santissima Annunziata. Similar to his designs the Piazza Della Signoria is fronted by the palazzo town hall.
This work highlights the central square of the Piazza. Consturcted around the main building the surrounding buildings were designed to look similar.
The work shows the similarities in the 3 italian reniassance piazzas. The works highlight the central piazza spaces that are surrounded by a main sturcture.
