01. teh teras tea house in historical context

6

Location: Darmo, Surabaya Area: 4000 sqm Dutch colonialism is not all a bitter history. Some of its material heritage such as urban planning and climate responsive architecture actually helps to find a tropical identity. Apart from these materials, several traditions were also inherited and had a positive impact until now. This tradition is clear evidence of the acculturation of the Dutch with the Javanese community. The culture adopted in this design were culture of afternoon tea. Tehteras is a cafe which will bring us back to the nuance of drinking afternoon tea in the past. Just like Indisch family (Dutch-Indonesian mixture) tea drinking habits. This habits also affect the space programming in the house. One of the important parts is the veranda. On the veranda, family ties were closely knit. They have a habit of gathering and drinking afternoon tea.

02. Kala Co-housing for elderly with inclusive design approach Location: Sukomanunggal, Surabaya, Indonesia Area: 10.000 sqm

12

Population growth is a something certain and continuous. It is the same with Indonesia, which is currently experiencing a demographic bonus. The demographic bonus is the increase in population at productive age of 15-64 years which lasts until 2036. From economic perspective, the elderly in 2060 are the generation who will be in their 20s. As this generation gets older, will there be a cultural shift in future eldely housing? Most of the buildings for the elderly are healthcare facilites such as nursing homes. The design strategy used to accommodate this typology of elderly settlements is an inclusive and co-housing approach. The inclusive design helps all types of users to participate in an equal manner in their daily activities. While co-housing aims to allow the user to play a role in a community. This co-housing is specially designed for elderly. It consider the disabilites they may encounter when aging. Design proposal were focusing on the architectural details which may help elderly living in home.

Between all effort to get into the job,the traffic, polution, noise, heat, create whole new stress level to both residents and workers. context Waru roundabout as we know is located in a very busy highway in stressful cities. Waru is located between two cities, Surabaya and Sidoarjo. People going to work or going home through the street and highway. It might be the places for Sidoarjo workers passing through everyday. DNTR stands for “di antara” because it located in two cities and it is a transition for workers to rest before going home. This is a place for people to relax amid daily demands. You can eat, play, cycling, reading, even fighting in here. It’s a little refreshment between two crowded cities.

Titian Temaram is a response for air pollutant in Jakarta. We want to remind people that the car they used to transport is also producing pollutant that contaminate the air. We trying to prevent the disaster of worse air condition in capital city. Jakarta and its surrounding air has been over-polluted which endangers the health of citizens and increases the risk of premature death. Global air monitoring results show the air pollution in Jabodetabek is higher compared to other regions. Air quality monitoring carried out by Greenpeace also shows Jabodetakbek’s air quality is far above the WHO and the Standard health threshold. on the other hand, the Jabodetabek community still has a limited understanding of the dangers of air pollution. as a first step, public awareness of the importance of air quality must be increased so that the implementation of various efforts to fulfill the quality of citizens’ rights to quality can be realized.

In college, I took interior photography class. It is another way to appreciate architecture. In this Lumer+ booklet, I took photos of a cafe in Surabaya. For these, no post-production was done except cropping. Photography for me is a matter of perspective. How we take a good shot is how we can be creative in searching for various angle.

This is a commision from a startup project. They wanted a logo for their landing-page. The client wanted a fluid and modern logo along with isometric images for their motto. The color palette is blue and green, a symbol for their vision. I used Adobe Illustrator for both. For the logo, I used the golden ratio theory and isometric grid for the graphic.

Prime stands for their motto - Positive, Robust, Integrate, Modern, and Eclat
