Thee Lingerie Shoppe Delivers Comfort, Quality and Support

f there is anyone in Regina who knows bras, it’s Linda Paul, owner of Thee Lingerie Shoppe.

Linda’s mother started the business 37 years ago. She grew up in it and so did her kids.

So, when she tells you that she and her staff develop the same type of relationship many women do with their hairdressers, one of comfort and trust, you believe her.

“We have a connection; it’s one on one,” Linda says. “It’s what gives us such value and meaning to our jobs, to be able to go

The store may have changed locations to it’s current bright and welcoming space on South Albert in 2013, but Paul’s commitment to providing personal attention and care to each customer has not.

“We’re not self serve,” she emphasizes.

“We’re sort of like a shoe store, we keep the bras in the back and bring them to you because we believe in service.”

Part of that service is to listen to the women who come through the doors,

learn about their needs and educate them about buying the right bra for their lifestyle, size and shape.

“That’s where we stand apart, because I think you have to have a lot of compassion and care for people. You could be dealing with someone who is a cancer survivor or going through treatment or a teen who is being bullied because of her size.

You have to hear people’s stories to help them,” Linda says.

Thee Lingerie Shoppe staff is trained and certified in prostheses and compression hose as well. Like every other woman

who comes into Thee Lingerie Shoppe, Linda wants to ensure cancer survivors feel comfortable. She even went so far as to have her husband design a set of special fitting rooms with extra privacy.

For these customers, the support and guidance Linda’s staff offers is both pre and post-Op. “We recommend they come in before surgery so that we can educate them on what to expect and what their needs might be after surgery,” she says. “It’s nice to see the customer beforehand, spend some time building up that trust and show them what they might be in store for.”

Thee Lingerie Shoppe has a seamstress on staff to ensure a perfect fit, every time. Linda admits that despite having the largest selection of bra sizes in Saskatchewan, everything from AA to N, and soon O, “sometimes even what we might recommend as the best bra still needs a little tweaking.”

Whether it’s something special for date night, a nursing or medical bra, a swimsuit for an upcoming holiday or a bra for everyday wear, Linda’s motto for Thee Lingerie Shoppe is ‘Beautiful undergarments for beautiful women.’

Shapely Holiday Look!

e all want to walk into a special holiday party and get that ‘double-check’ from the crowd. Unfortunately, we don’t all have a team of experts at our fingertips to create a primed and glamorous look for us.

What’s the next best thing? Learn what your body shape is and rather than camouflaging it; work with it!

The first thing to do is get out your measuring tape and measure your shoulders, bust, waist and hips.

Shoulders: You might need someone to help you measure from the tip of one shoulder all the way around you. The measuring tape should be high up around your shoulders so it almost slips off.

Bust: Pull the measuring tape across the fullest part of your bust and around your back. Don’t pull the tape tight though, you might squish your breasts which would give you an inaccurate reading.

Waist: Measure the smallest part of your natural waist, just above the belly button.

Hips: Start at one hip (below the hip bone) and wrap the tape measure around the largest part of your butt.

Once you have your measurements, you can use those numbers to help you determine your body shape!

Rectangle You are a rectangle if your waist is less than 25 per cent smaller than your shoulder or bust and your shoulder, bust, and hip measurements are within five per cent of each other.

If you’re tall to average in height, search for long, clean lines that skim your frame.

If the occasion doesn’t call for formal floor-length cuts, then seek out midilength silhouettes. Women who are under 5’4” will want to go with petite styles such as mini shift dresses with flirty finishes. Try some girly tiered ruffles or glam sequins just for a bit of eyecatching fun!

Hourglass You’re an hourglass if your waist is at least 25 per cent smaller than your shoulder or bust and your waist is at least 25 per cent

smaller than your hips and your shoulder and hip measurements are within five percent of each other.

When shopping for your gown, search for curve-clinging cuts to show off your frame. Offset a floor length gown with a stunning plunging neckline. For anything shorter, bring the neckline up.

WHO IS

JIMMY CHOO? J

immy Choo Yeang Keat was born in 1961 in Penang, Malaysia. As the son of a shoe cobbler, he was immersed in the world of shoemaking from an early age. His father wanted him to follow in his footsteps and by age 11 Choo had made his first pair of shoes.

After learning from his father about the craft of shoemaking, Choo made his way to England in the early 1980s to study at the Cordwainers Technical College in Hackney, where he graduated with honors in 1983.

Choosing to remain in England, Choo opened his first shop in Hackney in 1986 in an old hospital building. It didn’t take long for Choo’s reputation to build. Within two years of opening his shop, Choo’s shoes were featured in an eight-page spread in Vogue magazine.

Soon, Choo footwear was worn by the most elite of the celebrities. Diana. Princes of Wales was known to wear his shoes almost everywhere she went.

His relationship with Vogue was contributory to the launch of the Jimmy Choo brand. Vogue accessories editor, Tamara Yeardye Mellon, approached Choo about collaborating to create a line of ready-to-wear footwear.

The partners grew the business quickly while keeping the focus on creating high-end footwear.

They contracted with Italian factories and opened their first boutique shop in London.

By the late 1990s, Choo had stores in Los Angeles and New York and lineup of adoring Hollywood celebrities that included Julia Roberts and Renee Zellweger.

By the turn of the century, the Choo name was a global brand, with high-end retail clients that included Harrods and Saks Fifth Avenue carrying Choo footwear. The Choo brand had also expanded to handbags and other accessories.

Eventually Choo and Mellon became at odds about what direction the company should take next. Choo didn’t think bigger was better and questioned the quality of the shoes that were being made. In 2001, Choo sold his half of the company to Robert Bensoussan of Equinox Luxury Holdings for $30 million.

Since that time, Jimmy Choo has gone back to his roots at a small shop he opened in London, which serves as the headquarters for the exclusive Jimmy Choo Couture line. Choo crafts a small number of pairs of shoes each week and trains a select group of students on how to make high-end footwear.

Recent, Choo has become an Ambassador for Footwear Education at the London College of Fashion and spokesperson for the British Council in its efforts to reach out to foreign students. Choo is also a recipient of the O.B.E. (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). www.biography.com

“We’re teaching our students in a European style,” Herauf explains, “Across Europe, stylists are more specified & indepth training. We hope to bring more of that to Saskatchewan.”

The students (a senior and a junior) oversee all formulations needed for a client. “It develops great team building and gives a more intensive training,” mentions Pawson. “We do quality indicators every graduation class where we do follow-ups and statistics on our students. Our quality indicators are high for the employability of our students.

They are quite marketable because they do get intense training in all different areas. For hair styling, we also do upgrading for the journeyman’s exam.”

“We need to always understand what our fellow salons and spas are looking for and we realize retailing and confidence is a very important aspect.”

“Education is key. Myself and our esthetics instructor trained in Germany and Paris with La Biosthetique,” comments Herauf, “Not only is it an amazing product but you can do a skin identity test that can tell exactly what their skin condition is.

Understanding how much oil content or water content is in their skin Is a simple three-step process. People can come and get that treatment complimentary by our student. They are here to help determine what their skin care needs are.”

“Building confidence is also a huge factor when its time to step into the industry. I believe using top quality products and training gives them that,” Herauf says.

Since Principals Pawson and Herauf purchased the company in February, they have continued upgrading the facility and are always growing in diploma and certification programs is priority. “As the principal at AvantGarde for 13 years prior to the purchase and being a former salon spa owner, I understand the importance of education and staff,” Pawson remarks.

Pawson is a former chair of the provincial and national Skills Canada competition and continues to be a part of the board of SACC and advisory to the ministry of education committee.

“It was a perfect time,” smiles Herauf, owner Strictly Esthetics wholesale and retail Centre for six years prior to teaming up and purchasing AvantGarde. “Together we have a complete understanding of the needs our students and fellow salon and spa owners have.

Allowing both wholesale, retail and education under one roof is going to provide our students a step ahead.”

t was a truly a night for champions in more ways than one! October 28th marked another memorable Gold Medal Plates event at the Conexus Arts Centre. This recognition of Canadian Excellence in cuisine, wine, the arts and athletic achievement is celebrated in 11 cities across Canada this year.

Regina’s top chefs came out to compete in this exciting and prestigious event. Among the team of competitors, gold, silver and bronze medal winners were crowned.

Throughout the country eight to ten of Canada’s top chefs will go on to represent their city to compete at the Gold Medal Plates Finale, the Canadian Culinary Championships, February 3rd and 4th, 2017 in Kelowna, British Columbia.

THIS YEAR’S CULINARY AWARD WINNERS ARE: GOLD: Chef Garrett “Rusty” Thienes from Harvest Eatery and Freshmarket SILVER: Chef Curtis Toth from DoubleTree by Hilton BRONZE: Joel Williams from Capitol Restaurant & Cocktail Bar. “This is a great moment for me and my team! I’m so ecstatic,” exclaimed Chef Thienes after his triumph. Thienes tantalized the judges’ tastebuds with a sensational Smoked Wild Boar Tenderloin with Burn Morel and Sage Crust, Butternut Squash Veloute, Beet Puree, Dehydrated Crabapple Chips, Saskatoon Berry “Air”, Rhubarb Gastrique. He paired it with Dirty Laundry Vineyards Pinot Noir 2014.

All competing Chefs were awarded the Gold Medal Plates Emblem of Distinction, the gold standard in Canadian fine dining and a guarantee of excellence to all who enter their dining establishments. This Distinction is offered only to Chefs selected to compete at Gold Medal Plates dinners.

Entertainment was provided by top Canadian performers Jimmy Cuddy, Ed Robertson, Barney Bentall plus Anne Lindsay, Devin Cuddy and Sam Polley.

A silent auction table provided guests with the opportunity to bid on a broad selection of great items from a wealth of local businesses.

The goal of the Gold Medal Plates competition is to raise funds for our amazing Canadian athletes while enjoying an incredible evening of entertainment and sampling fine cuisine.

Since 2004, the event has received a

marvellous amount of support across the nation as it has raised close to $11 million for Canada’s Olympic Athletes.

just love good food and great wine!” says Denise Blondeau, founder and owner of Table 10.

This classic combination has made Table 10 a premier dining spot tucked in the eastern corner of Regina.

Blondeau opened the restaurant from scratch in February of 2011 after spending many years traveling and working in the industry around the world. With influences from her years of travel, Denise wanted everything you’d get at a luxury dining venue but in a more relaxed and approachable atmosphere.

“There is a lot of love that goes into

the food! And lots of hard work. We source everything we can locally and do everything from scratch.”

With their focus on the food, Table 10 has become a popular location for customers who have to be careful about what they eat. The majority of their menu is gluten friendly and many allergies and sensitivities can be accommodated.

“We wanted to make it easier for people with these limitations to still be able to go out and enjoy a night of good food.”

Blue Rooster Cafe fosters local artistry while serving great eats

wo sisters dreamed of opening their own cafe that not only serves good, wholesome food, but also supports local artists and all forms of art. That’s how the Blue Rooster Cafe and Studio was born.

Both are cancer survivors, so owners Wendy Erratt and Kelly Haas are mindful of what they eat. They notice more people are concerned about eating healthier. Haas prepares mouth-watering and wholesome meals which are made with local ingredients.

“Our food is real food that isn’t deep fried or microwaved. Everything is made from scratch from local producers - as local as they can get,” says Haas, who is has been cooking most of her life.

Their burgers are made from Saskatchewan organic, grass fed beef; honey from Zehner and Saskatchewan organic eggs. They also have gourmet organic coffees and teas.

Due to popular demand, their repertoire of classes continues to grow. Starting in November, Saskatchewan author Robyn Tocker, for example, will teach a creative writing course.

Aside from serving the tasty meals, the sisters hold art classes for all ages in their studio space. Erratt puts together the arts studio workshops and events, such as Acrylic Painting, Pre-School/Kids Art Workshops Glass-on-glass Workshops, Moccasin Marking Workshops, Knitting and Crocheting Workshops, Fundraising Paint Workshops and many Family Fun Arts events. Classes sell out quickly, especially since customers can register online. “Kids classes sell out in literally five minutes,” says Erratt. “People are definitely looking to find outlets for their creative side.”

Even though the Blue Rooster Cafe and Studio is in Pilot Butte, it doesn’t mean residents should miss out on what bigger cities have to offer, say Erratt and Haas.

“Just because we are small town, it doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy going out,” says Erratt.

They’ve also added live entertainment. “It came accidentally to us when Canadian Singer Sean Hogan called us after one of our customers told him about the cafe.”

Since then, the Blue Rooster Cafe has hosted even more Canadian talent and

plans to continue doing so. At the end of November, the Blue Rooster Cafe and Studio will feature a Country Christmas Concert and supper with Sean Hogan, Thomas Wade and Jamie Warren.

Recently, the cafe held its first Medieval Feast, which sold out. “We decorated the cafe and held icebreaker games. Guests dressed up for the candlelit supper and ate without utensils. We had live entertainment, including a belly dancer and a drummer. We get dressed up too. It was a lot of fun,” says Haas.

The Blue Rooster Cafe and Studio can also add larger special events because of the growing community support from the surrounding area, including Balgonie, White City, Emerald Park and Regina.

“We also have an excellent staff who is like family to us which is a definite key to our growth,” says Erratt.

From the initial meeting to design concept to reconstruction, Hazel values her partnerships with her clients through the ‘old-made-new’ evolution of design.

“Each step of the process, like the piece itself,” she says, “has a story to tell.”

Megan J. Hazel Jewellery is a business built on trust and transparency. She partners with her clients to build around what is special and significant about the original

Collaboration is a key element to her success. “Clients can be nervous about inviting someone to transform jewellery that has sentimental value into something new,” she says. “I put my heart into every piece connecting me to both the client and to the jewellery I’m designing. Hazel’s studio is warm and inviting with a gallery storefront that houses her distinctive and finely handcrafted jewellery that can be personally customized. Her original designs are

nature-based, reflecting the beauty of the prairie landscape. Often, the designs are inspired by a variety of textures and elements found in nature including leaves and grasses. She is inspired by new techniques and sustainability, and sees value in repurposing old materials.

Her meticulously crafted copper pendant and pin depicting the Saskatchewan logo was created curating old copper from – and new copper for – the dome of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building. The first piece, originally commissioned by a regular client, has ignited enthusiasm for owning a treasured piece of Saskatchewan history. Pendants and lapel

Regina Franchise Crosses PROVINCIAL BORDERS Rock Creek Tap and Grill continues to expand to other locations

n the past ten years, restaurants in Regina have experienced a great amount of change. Not only has the competition increased exponentially, but customers are asking, “what ingredients are in this dish?” and “how is this item being cooked?” more than they ever have before. Because of the rapidly changing restaurant environment, it is quite a feat for a franchise to maintain customers while still managing to attract new ones.

Rock Creek Tap and Grill, a Regina-based franchise, has not only weathered these changes but has actually come out stronger, expanding to new locations in the city, province, and even country. For Stu Rathwell, of Rock Creek, this feat is something he takes great pride in (and for good reason, too).

The idea behind the Rock Creek restaurant began about ten years ago, when Rathwell was prompted by a “need for more of a creative, casual, and new cuisine that Regina hadn’t seen before.”

He knew that locals wanted high-end menu items in a casual setting, so that is exactly what he created. Rathwell’s experience in the restaurant industry, now spanning on 27 years, drove him to open the first location of Rock Creek Tap and Grill on Quance Street in Regina. When it opened in October of 2006, Rathwell expected this primary location to also be the only location of Rock Creek. Since then, however, he has been pleasantly surprised to oversee the company expand locally from its primary location in the East End into the North End of Regina, and then provincially into three restaurants in Saskatoon and one more in Moose Jaw. Rock Creek is also the only franchise in its competitive set to expand interprovincially from Regina.

The homegrown, local franchise is based entirely out of Regina but has expanded to Alberta (Lloydminster) and, most recently, Manitoba (Winnipeg). But both the growth and success have not stopped there.

The franchise’s newest location, named RockWood Urban Grill in Winnipeg, Manitoba, shows Rathwell’s willingness to adapt and provide exactly what his customers desire. The restaurant displays a brand new concept that originated from the ideas of the Rock Creek Franchising Group – namely Executive Chef, Lloyd Frank, and Operations Leaders, Scott Gibson and Darren Zawyrucka. The ideas of these men, paired with patrons’ desires at the forefront, have created a system that rivals most National groups. Because more consumers want to know how their food is cooked, RockWood Urban Grill provides a simple and natural method of cooking its proteins.

To achieve this, the restaurant features a wood-burning grill for all of the menu’s meats and even some of its vegetables. The ingredients are cooked over a natural flame, burning over hickory and oak wood, which creates and maintains the bold flavours that Rock Creek customers already love.

There are also new smokers being added to the kitchens to introduce another bold,

new taste. Unique, flavourful foods is what Rock Creek locations in Regina already specialize in and they only continue at the RockWood location in Winnipeg. Rathwell directs his company on the basis of his clientele, stating that they have all been ‘fantastic from the very beginning. He understands that in the ten years that Rock Creek has been open in Regina, the restaurant’s demographic has expanded while the figurative “bar” for running a successful business continues to be raised. Despite the restaurant industry’s high expectations, Rock Creek moulds itself around what the guest demands are and raises the bar higher to ensure that it stays current.

So with seven, going on eight locations (once the new arena-style restaurant pops up in the new Mosaic Stadium), what is Rock Creek’s secret to pleasing everybody? “Ambiance,” says Rathwell.

“Throughout the entire building… not just the lounge.” The music, environment, customer service, quality of food, cleanliness, and pricing all contribute to the restaurant franchise’s success. These areas have to be consistent and they have to be capable of ‘changing on the fly,’ as customer demands are continuously changing as well. The support that Regina has shown of the restaurant’s local theme has also been a major component to the success of the Rock Creek franchise.

So, next time you are in a Rock Creek location, take a look around the restaurant and appreciate what Saskatchewan and Regina specifically, has to offer. What started as an idea just a decade ago has now materialized into a Regina-based franchise that is not afraid to expand its borders. The homegrown success is still continuing to grow.

he nursery crib mattress is usually an afterthought for most parents. However, it should be considered just as important of a purchase as your car seat or stroller.

Infants spend a considerable amount of time during their first year or so on their mattress which makes it an integral part of your baby’s life. A parent has many things to consider when making the important purchase of their crib mattress.

For example, if it is providing the right amount of firmness, comfort and of course safety for their child.

In regards to the firmness of the mattress, often parents are unsure of what this means or how to check if a mattress is firm enough. Ultimately, a firm mattress will help to reduce gases pooling around a child by preventing the weight of the child from sinking in too much, however, having too firm of a mattress can cause issues like flat head syndrome or allow the child to roll easily around the crib creating a hazard. Simmons crib mattresses, manufactured by Jupiter Industries in Canada, provides a wide range of mattresses that are all firm enough for a newborn, but still provide the appropriate level of softness for a comfortable sleep.

To check the firmness, place two open hand palms on either side of the mattress and squeeze.

The safety of a crib mattress can relate to both the fit of the mattress in the crib and the materials used to make the mattress. To determine the best fit for a mattress, place it inside the crib and push it gently to one side. The gap between the mattress edge and the inside crib rail should be no wider than 3 cm (30mm or 1 3/18”). When exploring the materials of the mattress, check to see whether it has gone through 3rd party testing to check for off-gassing of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). As babies tend to breath in more rapidly, if a mattress off-gasses the child can be taking in toxins much faster than an adult would. Simmons crib mattresses have all been tested for this and have come back as being 99.9 per cent VOC free, providing parents with peace of mind that their little ones are having a safe and healthy sleep.

Menopause: The Next Great Phase

e’ve all had ‘the talk’ from our mothers about the changes going on in our bodies when puberty started to show its face. Now that we are getting more mature (not older, just wiser), we are facing changes once again; changes that our mothers forgot to tell us about.

As we approach our perimenopausal years (typically mid to late 40’s) we notice changes in our hormones, our weight and our health. How do we keep our bodies and attitudes looking and feeling great?

First of all, let’s get a few facts. Did you know that it’s common for an average woman to gain from two to five pounds during the menopausal transition? This extra bit of weight is usually in the lower tummy area. The primary reason for this weight gain is because of the reduction of estrogen. The fat cells in the hip, thigh and buttock areas have receptors for estrogen which drives most fat storage to the lower part of the body. As estrogen levels begin to decrease, it loses its hold on fat storage below the waist and fat begin to show up in midriff.

The health issues surrounding this weight gain is commonly talked about, we are more and more aware of the increased risks for heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

We have doctors and health care professionals to advise us on how to stay physically healthy but what about the detrimental psychological affects of this time in our lives? As we see our bodies shifting from pear shape to apple or from hour glass to sandbag, our emotions tend to take a beating. We look at the beautiful 18-year-old supermodels in the media and we feel like there’s no way we can keep up.

Here are a few everyday ways that will help you feel good about yourself during this transition in your life.

1. Stop listening to the negative hype about the menopausal years. Women today have many options as they undergo natural, physical changes.

2. Not only does physical activity help you maintain a healthy weight, it also increases your body confidence and helps to reduce stress.

3. Check your nutritional status. A healthy diet will make you look and feel great at any age.

4. Take time for yourself. Find some fun activities. Take up volunteerism or try learning a new hobby. Reconnect with old friends.

Although menopause is a normal passage and a biological certainty, every woman’s experience is unique. Don’t be afraid to talk about what you are going through with other women your age or older women who have already been there. Learn as much as you can about this phase in your life. It will help you be more self-aware and keen to what is happening.

Be sure to keep regular medical appointments and talk to your doctor about any questions or concerns that you may have.

Remember, this is not just the end of one stage of your life, it’s the beginning of a whole new one. Embrace this new experience and look at in a positive way, that’s how nature intended it to be.

he global economy and markets have been buoyed by the unconventional practices of quantitative easing (QE) and low-to-negative interest rates. Such rates create less desirable prospects in the bond market and encourage more borrowing to stimulate investment in the cyclical sectors and real estate. This has also resulted in disconcertingly high levels of consumer debt.

Each time the U.S. Federal Reserve is scheduled to announce its rate forecasts, investors brace themselves in anticipation of a shift in monetary policy.

The market outlook will very likely continue to be bullish if the policies all around remain unchanged. There also exists the chance that the Fed will finally unveil a rate cut, which will send the markets up again.

Moving the interest rates towards zero will only create shallow benefits in the short term, forcing investors to keep running with the upward trend. Investor optimism will become even shakier. At some point, the interest rates must go up. The question is whether a series of

that produce these materials, rather than owning the physical assets. However, if you do prefer to reduce your exposure in stocks, then consider buying actual bars or coins of gold or silver; just make sure you have a safe place to keep them.

After coming down off the highs of 2011 and being relatively quiet the last three years, the precious metals have been back in play, being big market standouts so far this year. Many investors made most of their money in the first two quarters in the metals.

WINNING THE RACE

on’t ever try telling Cathie Doroshenko that she can’t do something. It all started on the family farm near Zehner where she grew up, a big part of her father Robert Mohr’s mixed farming operation. Older sister Susan loved working with the animals, while younger brother Jamie preferred driving tractors and combines.

But Doroshenko wanted to be involved everywhere. She thoroughly enjoyed baking with her mom Sharon, but there was no way she was going to spend all her time indoors. She had a lot of fun

helping look after the farm animals, and developed what turned out to be a lifelong interest in pretty much anything with an engine; helping her father maintain and fix farm trucks, tractors, combines, you name it.

After high school Doroshenko eventually started a rewarding career with the Workers Compensation Board in Regina. About nine years ago she met an experienced drag racer named Pete Doroshenko, who eventually became her husband. Initially she just watched him race, but he encouraged her to give it a

try. Once again, Cathie found it exciting to do something new.

“I was nervous, but I tried it. When I started, it was scary, mainly because I didn’t know what to do,” says Cathie. “But I got better, and kept improving my results.”

Drag races have two cars racing in a straight line, usually a quarter mile. When Doroshenko first started back in 2011, her time was 18.2 seconds. Refusing to be discouraged, she worked hard to improve. Now she’s brought her reaction time at the start down to an impressive

.002 seconds. That, combined with Pete’s mechanical expertise, has improved her overall time to 12.65 seconds.

“Because drag racing requires so much focus, that sometimes is enough to throw them off and give me an advantage.”

Doroshenko races in a class of 45 competitors, only about five of which are women, while Pete competes in a different class. Even though being a female in a male dominated sport can be somewhat intimidating at first, she has discovered that it does have its advantages.

Doroshenko races in a restored white 1976 El Camino SS, and goes by the name ‘Snow White Racing.’ She won the prestigious NHRA Wally award in 2014, as well as the points race in her class in 2013. With all that success, she is hoping to attract outside sponsorship starting in 2017. Businesses could have their names linked to her success by having their decals on her car and getting their names announced at all her races.

“When guys find out they have to race me, a lot of them get all nervous and frustrated about racing a girl,” says Doroshenko.

As if it isn’t enough to have a challenging full time job and a successful drag racing career, in 2014 Doroshenko purchased the Tan FX business on Pasqua Street. She has always believed in the importance of healthy and safe tanning, and was excited by this opportunity to help others do the same. As Doroshenko likes to say, ‘If you’re going to do something, it’s important to believe in what you’re doing.’
