Brighton College Vietnam

Letter From the Head of College

I would like to extend my warm welcome to all parents and children who are considering Brighton College Vietnam for their education. If, as I hope you do, you choose us, you will make a wise choice. Brighton College Vietnam is a part of the amazing family of Brighton Colleges around the world: all connected intimately to Brighton College UK, voted the UK School of the Decade, and the Best Sixth Form in Britain. You can therefore be assured that we can call upon fantastic support and connections. It also allows us to recruit the very best staff who want to further their careers in the Brighton College family.

Our education is both highly academic and very broad. Our pupils will of course receive a superb educational experience, culminating in IGCSEs in Year 11. In Sixth Form, Years 12 and 13, we aim to offer the IBDP programme. We are in the final stages of accreditation for that programme. But is it important for you to understand the wider nature of our education. Our core values, Curiosity, Confidence and Kindness are at the heart of what we do, both in the classroom and outside.

We focus on each pupil as an individual, with unique skills, unique aspirations and unique personalities. Our staff believe and are experienced in supporting each pupil on his or her unique pathway. This is one of the things that makes us different. We invest time in getting to know your children and getting to know you. In practical terms, this means that we have open, regular and collaborative communications with parents. For all pupils, there are likely to be stumbles during their school years. We are there to help them overcome these stumbles, to develop independence, resilience and confidence to face challenges and be ready for life beyond school. It also means we provide a diverse range of opportunities outside the classroom to develop additional skills and interests, whether in sport, the arts, outdoor education, entrepreneurship, service, leadership or technology. This is what we mean by a broad and holistic education.

Importantly too, we see ourselves as a community, in which everyone has a voice and a role. This includes pupils, parents, staff and indeed the wider community in Hanoi and Vietnam of which we are a part. You will be welcomed into this community as a family and will remain part of the community even after your children have left and moved on in their lives.

We very much hope to see you as visitors to find out more, and of course that you will subsequently choose Brighton College Vietnam for your children. I am confident that if you do, you will not regret the decision.

STEM Exploration:

CREATIVITY AND CURIOSITY

AT BRIGHTON COLLEGE VIETNAM

At Brighton College Vietnam, our STEM programme is thoughtfully crafted to inspire creativity, curiosity, and innovation. Recognised as one of the top schools in the UK for STEM subjects, we bring this same commitment to excellence here in Vietnam. Through diverse subjects and co-curricular activities (CCAs), our pupils actively engage in experiential learning that encourages them to think critically and develop as innovators.

Innovative Thinking in Design & Technology

In Design and Technology (D&T) classes, pupils learn to transform their ideas into tangible prototypes, starting with sketching designs, experimenting with materials, and using various techniques to bring their concepts to life. From creating 3D models to refining their initial ideas, our pupils are encouraged to think like designers and engineers, honing skills that are both practical and imaginative.

Exploring Science Through Experiments

Meanwhile, in Chemistry and Physics classes, pupils immerse themselves in hands-on experiments, turning theory into practice. They investigate scientific principles through engaging activities—whether it’s testing chemical reactions in the lab or exploring the forces of motion and electricity. These experiments help pupils deepen their understanding of the physical world and foster their natural curiosity about how things work.

STEM Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the classroom, our pupils can explore their STEM passions through a wide range of STEM-focused CCAs. Whether they’re joining robotics clubs, coding workshops, or masterclasses, these co-curricular activities provide opportunities for pupils to expand their knowledge and sharpen their skills in a fun, collaborative environment.

Through our rich STEM offerings, Brighton College Vietnam nurtures a generation of thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers who are ready to meet the challenges of the future with confidence and creativity.

Navigating The Business World:

A JOURNEY THROUGH LEARNING AT BRIGHTON COLLEGE VIETNAM

Business is introduced since Key Stage 3 and becomes a compulsory part of the curriculum in Years 12 and 13. During these final years, pupils work closely with industry experts to develop business plans for products or services, craft communication strategies, establish budgets, and raise capital. This hands-on experience equips them with essential skills, preparing them for success in their future careers.

Recently, our Year 9 pupils brought economic concepts to life by exploring Cuba's command economy and analysing successful free-market nations like Singapore and the US while learning about Finland’s happiness-driven economy.

Year 8 focused on corporate social responsibility (CSR), studying campaigns from an electric vehicle company and an ice cream brand that helped 700,000 children, as well as sustainability practices from leading sportswear brands.

Year 7 is preparing for the '300,000 VND Business Challenge' by researching companies, their products, and strategies, building practical skills for their entrepreneurial journeys.

At Brighton College Vietnam, we are dedicated to offering practical programs that cultivate essential skills in marketing, finance, operations, and data analysis while fostering a curiosity about the world. Our pupils are developing the skills they need to navigate future challenges in an ever-evolving global economy.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs):

FUELING GROWTH AND LEADERSHIP AT BRIGHTON COLLEGE VIETNAM

Brighton College Vietnam offers a robust selection of approximately 60 different CCAs, with 135 activity slots per week, allowing every pupil to explore a variety of interests beyond the classroom.

Participation in CCAs enhances academic learning by fostering skills essential for pupils' well-being and future success. Through diverse activities, pupils balance education with personal interests, leading to a more fulfilling school experience.

By engaging in varied CCA categories, such as Sports and Fitness (e.g., football, swimming), Performing Arts (e.g., musical theatre, dance), STEM & Technology (e.g., robotics, coding), Creative Arts (e.g., art club, ceramics), Leadership & Community (e.g., library ambassadors, school newspaper).

Pupils develop independence, responsibility, and collaboration skills through CCAs. Leadership roles within these activities further enhance self-confidence and prepare them for future challenges.

These experiences help pupils develop a positive attitude toward school and enhance their sense of belonging within the broader school community. Let’s embrace this opportunity for growth, leadership, and self-discovery as we set the tone for another remarkable school year!

Kindness Culture:

BUILDING A COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY AT BRIGHTON COLLEGE VIETNAM

At Brighton College Vietnam, we believe that every small act of kindness has the power to make a difference. Whether it’s sharing pens with friends, tidying up the classroom, holding doors for others, or simply offering a warm smile, these simple gestures create a community grounded in compassion and understanding.

Responsibility and Kindness

Sharing and Growing Together

Sharing strengthens friendships and builds trust. From lending a pencil to sharing a book, these small acts of kindness bring joy and help us grow together.

"As a new teacher, I’m amazed by the kindness shown by everyone. Pupils learn to share and practise kindness from day one." Ms Helen Morris, Year 3 Teacher.

Kindness begins with responsibility. Whether it’s completing homework, tidying up, or caring for the planet, our pupils are learning that small actions shape their future.

"Being responsible means recognising our power to make a positive impact," - Mr Richard Millington, Science and Computing Lead Teacher.

Gratitude in Action

After Typhoon Yagi, our Prep pupils designed thank-you cards for the Operations Team, showing their appreciation for the team's efforts to repair the school. Their gratitude strengthened our community.

“Practising gratitude strengthens friendships and makes our community stronger.” - Ms Poppy Barton, Year 3 Teacher

At Brighton College, kindness is a core value. Through simple acts of kindness, our pupils are building a more compassionate future for themselves and those around them.

Life Beyond the Classroom

At Brighton College Vietnam, education extends far beyond the classroom walls, as our pupils are encouraged to engage with the world around them in meaningful ways.

A Cozy and Creative Mid-Autumn Festival

This month’s Mid-Autumn Festival was a vibrant celebration of tradition and creativity. Pupils crafted their lanterns, performed music, and even acted in a play, all while learning the deeper significance of the festival. It was a day of community, culture, and joy, as pupils connected with Vietnamese culture and heritage.

Supporting Those in Need: Our Charity Efforts

At Brighton College Vietnam, charity is at the heart of our values. This year, our school and parent community united to support those impacted by Typhoon Yagi, raising vital funds to help repair two schools in Lao Cai Province, one of the hardest-hit areas. Through these generous contributions, we are giving back and instilling in our pupils the importance of compassion, community, and social responsibility.

Inspiring Initiative: CKC Foundation

Beyond these efforts, one pupil’s journey stands as an inspiring example of our core values: Curiosity, Kindness, and Confidence. Gia Bao, a Year 10 pupil, turned his Business & Enterprise lessons into real-world action by launching his own business on campus. Through his CKC Foundation, he has been selling bubble tea every Friday, donating all his proceeds to help those affected by Typhoon Yagi. His dedication and generosity show how learning and values can drive positive change.

Brightonians Shine at Hanoi Sports League

Brighton College Vietnam recently participated in the Hanoi Sports League, where our pupils showcased their exceptional talent and sportsmanship. Competing in various sports, including basketball and badminton, our teams shined, demonstrating skill, determination, and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to more success in future events!
