Infant Classroom Daily Activities • •

Cuddling, rocking: Creating nurturing relationships is essential in an infant classroom, and teachers take the time to bond with each infant. Small group time, finger plays, singing songs: Infants respond to music, movement, and sounds; therefore we ensure that they receive gentle stimulation through songs, finger plays, and small group interactions.

Exploring age appropriate toys, reading books, art projects: Infants learn to “know” about the world around them only by exploring it fully with all five senses. We strive to provide an environment that provides opportunities for infants to explore new toys, discover books, and enjoy projects.

Floor and Outdoor time: Infants need time to stretch, move, crawl and climb. By incorporating gross motor development with play, infants are motivated to move and explore. Our outdoor facility provides a safe, interactive area for infants to play when the weather is permitting.

Diaper Changes: Infants are changed every two hours from the time of arrival and/or as needed based on each child’s individual needs. The proper diaper changing procedures are followed to include infant hand washing. Transitions: Infants are given opportunities to transition smoothly from one activity to another through a variety of activities such as singing songs, hand plays, rituals, etc. Teachers create a daily routine for infants in order to help them transition from home to the center, from activities to outdoor play, from outdoor play to activities, and from the center back to home smoothly.
