Mr Oliver Bromley-Hall Head MasterBrighton Scholarships are awarded to pupils entering specific year groups in our Senior School who demonstrate outstanding ability and potential in Music, Sport and Academic Studies.
Scholars receive extra support and opportunities to develop their skills, as well as taking on the responsibility of becoming role models for their peers and the wider school community.
• Our Scholarship process is exceptionally competitive and places are limited, so your child must at least meet our minimum criteria in order to be considered.
• All applicants will be required to sit a Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT)
Registration and application
• Our Scholars will attract a fee concession of up to 50% of our published fees.
• 4 new Excellence Scholarship awards are available annually from September 2024, attracting a fee concession of up to 75% of our published fees.
• Concessions will be means tested and reviewed on an annual basis.

Starting from September 2024, Brighton College will be offering 4 new Excellence Scholarships annually to pupils who have shown excellence, achieving at the highest level and who demonstrate continued progress across their academic endeavors at Key Stage 3 and 4. Applications are welcomed from pupils who are on track to achieve grade 9s at GCSE and have a CAT profile of 135+. Younger applicants should also have a mean CAT profile of 135+ and demonstrate outstanding attainment in maths, English and science. Candidates should be ambitious in their application to learning and who demonstrate hard work both within the classroom and with homework, extended projects and research outside the classroom.
Assessment
Applications for entry into Years 6, 7 and 8 will be required to complete assessments in English, maths and the sciences. Years 9 and 10 will be required to complete GCSE-style assessments in English, maths and the sciences. All applicants will also be asked to complete reasoning tests and have an interview with a senior member of staff.

School reports and external qualifications should be included as part of the application process, in addition to samples of independent work or extension projects. Evidence of participation in co-curricular academic opportunities, competitions and conferences will also be taken into consideration.
If an award is offered and accepted, holders will be expected to fulfil the following for the duration of their school career:
1. Act as a role model and leader within the school community and beyond
2. Maintain high academic standards, which will be reviewed on an annual basis

Brighton College offers scholarships to pupils who show considerable musical promise. Candidates must show a high degree of musical ability including the ability to read music and should demonstrate potential for leadership in the encouragement of non-award holding musicians. Candidates should hold equivalent to ABRSM/ Trinity Grade 6 or above in their chosen instrument and be able to demonstrate participation in tuition, performances, workshops and co-curricular activities in previous years. All candidates must show evidence of playing 2 instruments, one of which can be voice.
Auditions will be adjudicated by a panel to include the Head of Music and the Head Master. Candidates will be required to play two pieces; one on their first study instrument and one on their second. Singing may be offered as either a first or second instrument. Candidates may include a recording of previous performances or letter of recommendation from a certified musical tutor.
Whilst the standard of the candidate’s main instrument should be approximately Grade 6, for younger applicants potential is regarded as being just as important. Successful candidates will be those who show a genuine interest in their development as a young musician and those who will contribute to the musical life of the College.
If an award is offered and accepted, holders will be expected to fulfil the following for the duration of their school career:
1. Play a leading role in the musical and performance life of the school, performing at every opportunity
2. Maintain an outstanding level of performance. To be reviewed annually.
3. An independently motivated and disciplined approach to practice and perfecting your craft
4. A passion for music and interest in developing a critical knowledge and understanding of music across time and genres
5. A role model for others developing their musical skill across the College, taking on leadership and mentoring roles in supporting other pupils
6. To be an ambassador for the College in promoting the arts within the community
7. To continue to enter externally recognised examinations in music e.g. Trinity/ ABRSM
8. Attend all music CCAs, bands, choirs etc. and enter competitions and participate in events beyond the College
9. Support pastoral leaders in developing musical House events and competitions
10. Develop character behaviours in line with our Brighton core values of Curiosity, Confidence and Kindness
Sports Scholarships are offered to candidates who demonstrate elite level potential in at least one sport, demonstrated through participation both inside and outside of school. Candidates should demonstrate excellent potential in a second sport for future development. Alongside sporting ability, candidates should be able to provide evidence of giving back to the community through sport eg. through involvement with youth sporting activities or coaching initiatives.
Brighton College offers a wide variety of sports for girls and boys. When considering applications, we focus on our main sports; football, netball, basketball and swimming. However, consideration is also given to applicants offering other sports, in particular athletics and golf .
Assessment
On assessment day, all candidates will participate in a series of standardised tests assessing fitness, coordination and athletic ability both individually and as part of a group. Candidates will then be required to deliver a short presentation outlining their sporting journey and how sport has developed their character. An interview will also be conducted by the Director of Sport. Application forms may be accompanied by recommendations from the candidate’s coach(es) on sporting achievement, together with evidence of sporting success including video footage of sporting performances, if appropriate.
If an award is offered and accepted, holders will be expected to fulfil the following for the duration of their school career:
1. Represent the College at the highest possible level on all appropriate occasions
2. Maintain an outstanding level of performance. To be reviewed annually
3. Act as a role model and sports leader within the school community and beyond
4. Attend all CCAs, events and commit to all fixtures whether it is your chosen sport or not
5. Compete and perform at elite level, showcasing your sport as an ambassador for the College
6. Make the most of your ability and commit to developing and refining your skill set through deep continued practice and responding to expert feedback
7. Inspire others in the College community to play sport
8. Develop character behaviours in line with Brighton our core values of Curiosity, Confidence and Kindness
