Brighton & Hove Independent has teamed up with New Priory Vets, Vets 2 Home, and Dogs Trust Shoreham to help find homes for some of Brighton and Hove’s unwanted dogs. This week is Brock and Whisper. www.dogstrust.org.uk

Marking the 70th anniversaries

Factfile: “Brock is an 8-year-old male Whippet, and Whisper is a 9-year-old female Whippet. “They are the most delightful pair who are very attached to each other so need to find their forever home together. “Brock is a gentle soul who prefers to avoid strangers which allows Whisper to happily say hello and have a gentle fuss. “They are not suited to a family environment, so are looking for an all adult home. “They do prefer each others company and are both uneasy around new dogs, Brock is especially uncomfortable he just wants to be close to his lady love Whisper.”

£240k crowdfunding

A fire in Hove is believed to have started as a result of the reflection of the sun’s rays. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that fire crews were called to a property in Wilbury Road, Hove last week. The alarm was raised after a report of a fire alarm sounding and a burning smell. A small fire had damaged the curtains at the property and was found to be out when the fire crews arrived.

Brighton frozen yogurt firm Lick has beaten its £240,000 crowdfunding target as 250 investors have signed up to support its expansion. The company plans to use the money to take on more staff, spend more on marketing and start exporting its products. In the past few years Lick has supplied supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s and Waitrose as well as the online retailer Ocado and restaurant chain Yo! Sushi.
