Mia Mottelson breaks any law in the visual arts. Dynamics and rhythm drive the content, not the laws of perspective or ratios of the human body. The whole image is filled with biomorphic figures, shaped by their actions. She cuts through to clarity and leaves only those body parts in the image that are relevant. Nothing is given. Everything is energy. Simultaneously both raw and fluid in an infinite motion, as if the drawing emerges in front of us. Mottelson combines digital drawing with water color to add a tactile presence to her aesthetic and critical goal. It has to make a difference, because it’s needed. Now.
