April begins with our Community Wide Yom HaShoah Program at Congregation Knesseth Israel in Bound Brook. As we move through the month, please join us for another terrific Jewish LIFE program featuring Mama Doni’s “Get Cooking” rocking musical book talk. The fun continues that evening as we make Israeli flags out of cakes and cookies to celebrate Yom Ha’Atzmaut. We end April with our FIT N’ GO Fashion Show and Basket Auction. Come out for a fun evening and support our Fitness department. We begin May with a “Night to Celebrate Israel”, our community’s support of Israel and Bond event. Join us for an evening of dinner, dancing, speakers and fun. Later in the month we will be heading out to Flemington to hold our Second Annual Texas Hold-em West! In June we will be traveling to New York City to participate in the Israel Parade. Please let us know if you are interested in joining our group of spectators. The next event is our 12th Annual Golf Outing, and by MidJune we’re setting our sights on summer as camp is only a few weeks away! If you have not yet begun to experience all that we have to offer, please give us a call. We would love to have one of our staff members help you to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that are available at the Center. In this Guide alone, you will discover hundreds of different activities, programs, classes and events. Lots of exciting things are planned, and now is the time to begin signing up. I invite you to stay in touch in every season. My door is always open and I can be reached by email at lfriedman@ssbjcc.org Look forward to seeing you often at the “J”! Laura

Aquatots II

If you are unsure of a child’s level, you can bring your swimmer in to be tested or contact the Aquatics Director for questions. An in-person evaluation will ensure that your child will be in the correct class. It only takes a few minutes for an instructor to evaluate a swimmer’s level. Call the Aquatics office for more information or to schedule an appointment to start your swimmer off with the correct class this session.

Ages 18 months to 3 years old

Observation of Lessons

For those little swimmers who are already comfortable in the water! Songs and activities help infants and toddlers further gain confidence and practice their budding basic swimming skills. Starfish skills are introduced and children begin to work more with the instructor to get prepared to move to the next level of swimming and rely less on Mommy and Daddy’s help. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under a child’s swimsuit.

While we recognize that parents are as thrilled about the progress of their children as the students are, we respectfully ask that parents remain seated on the 6 foot side of the pool bleachers for the duration of your child’s lesson. Unless specified (such as a parent/child swim class) parents are not permitted in the water with their children as this is a distraction to the group as a whole. Thank you for your cooperation.

SPRING/SUMMER 2013 PROGRAM GUIDE

Group swim classes at the Bridgewater JCC enjoy a limited four student to one instructor ratio. Because of this ratio classes fill up quickly leaving not much option for a make-up class. In order to be considered for a make up class, a doctor’s note must be given to the Aquatics Office. The Aquatics Department cannot guarantee that a makeup class will be available, however every effort will be made to accommodate the need of the individual and that there is space in the class desired.

Preschool Level 2 Children entering this course must have a Preschool Aquatics Level 1 certificate or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements from Level 1. The objectives of Level 2 are to build upon the skills learned in Level 1 and give children success with fundamental skills. Children learn to float on their back without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Children continue to explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes. Level 2 adds to the selfhelp and basic rescue skills begun in Level 1. CODE

Certification/Completion of Course

Although our goal as instructors is to help students successfully complete their certification goals, students are sometimes not able to adequately complete the stated requirements for the course. Payment of the course fee and participation in class does not guarantee certification; students must successfully complete all course objectives in order to be certified. If you and/or your child have questions or concerns regarding your/their ability to pass this course, please contact the Aquatics Department PRIOR to registering.

GENERAL INFORMATION JCC Fundraising Efforts The JCC sponsors a host of fundraising events throughout the year that benefit The JCC Scholarship Fund. We ask you to support the Scholarship Fund by purchasing a Big Raffle ticket, sponsor a tee at the Golf Outing, sponsor a table at our Texas Hold’em and/ or place an ad in our Journal. Some of you unfamiliar with the Scholarship Fund may ask… “What is the JCC Scholarship Fund? How does it help the community? And… why should I contribute?” We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the JCC Scholarship Fund and how it helps our members and our community. Part of the JCC’s mission is to provide programs and services regardless of someone’s ability to pay. We have a process whereby individuals or families experiencing financial difficulties can apply to the JCC for financial assistance for preschool, camp or membership. Over the past thirteen years we have given out over one million dollars in scholarship assistance to individuals and families in need so that they can participate in activities, attend the Blaustein Early Childhood Center and JCC Camp Ruach. The JCC Camp and Preschool Scholarship Program makes it possible for youngsters to participate in JCC activities that they could not otherwise afford. Funds also support services to seniors including a hot lunch, exercise, entertainment and socialization. Scholarship assistance is provided to all who demonstrate financial need, regardless of race, creed, or color. We hope this provides you with a better understanding of the important role the JCC Scholarship Fund plays in our community, and how simply purchasing a Raffle Ticket can help us fulfill our mission. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation to the JCC Scholarship Fund, please contact Laura Friedman, JCC Executive Director at 908-7256994 x213; LFriedman@ssbjcc.org or mail a check to the “JCC”.

Thank you in advance for your support of the JCC Scholarship Fund.

Benefactor Program For a donation of $500/year, you will have the opportunity to be on our Honor Roll of Supporters as a Benefactor. This will entitle you to one reserved locker, a place on our Benefactors Honor Roll outside the locker room area, a complimentary Personal Training Session and a few additional gifts. The Benefactor donation is renewable on a yearly basis. Please consider doing this for both the Jewish community and yourself. Your donation is so very important for the continuity of programming and services that deeply affect each of us.

Tribute Cards Support the JCC… To Honor and Remember Your Family, Friends and Life Events. Tribute Cards are a meaningful way to honor or memorialize loved ones or recognize a milestone or special occasion. Funds generated help support the important programs and services the JCC provides to our community. All gifts are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support. Please call 908-725-6994 x201 for more information. Minimum donation: $18

Refer a New Member to the JCC and Save! The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC has an on-going Referral Program for our members. A JCC Member referring a new Member who joins the JCC receives up to $100 off their JCC membership renewal. The more members you refer, the more you can save! You can even receive your membership renewal for free! The joining member must include referring member name on the membership application to receive referral discount. One referral reward per new join will be mailed to you. Rewards vary according to type of membership referred, and the policy does not apply to Corporate Memberships or Lunchtime Memberships.
