human behavior o v e r v i e w Despite the ever-changing technological environment in which we now live, human behavior and emotions will never change. Humans may begin to react differently as times change, but they will never fail to have a reaction of some kind. These reactions are perfectly captured in classic novels that are still being taught in school systems today. Classic novels explore the human experience by invading our thoughts with the lives of characters real and fictional alike. These characters change us by offering us different views and opinions on the world around us. Views such as these allow us to learn and empathize with other people. We are detecting a change towards more literate individuals who not only enjoy reading, but who enjoy creating their own story with their style. Themes found in classic novels, for example, will fuel our outlook on fashion and home dĂŠcor. LOLITA introduces us to the perverse

world of a middle-aged man in love with a young girl through saturated warm colors in combination with ladylike, quirky gems. FAHRENHEIT 451 explores the fear and consequences coupled with censorship through the use of dark greys and red accents. THE STRANGER depicts the life of an isolated man infatuated with those around him through the use of transparent fabrics in combination with pale neutrals. FRANKENSTEIN delves into the dangerous world of creation and the thirst for knowledge by including a variety of green shades. THE METAMORPHISIS describes the terrifying transformation from man to bug, which will be translated through burnt oranges and hard shells. Classic novels allow us to learn about ourselves through the lives of someone else. Autumn/Winter 2015-16 will incorporate the themes of these novels to establish a style that is both rich in quality and thought.

Ray Bradbury’s novel, FARENHEIT 451, illustrates a future world in which the government burns books that are deemed inappropriate to the public. As the technological world increases, we live in greater fear of our privacy being invaded. This fear will drive the fashion world into the dark world created by Bradbury. Censorship explored in the novel will inspire harsh silhouettes in combination with head and face coverings. We’re seeing a strong use of black and white prints in addition to muted pales. Autumn/Winter 2015-16 is the perfect time to explore the darker side of our senses.

A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. When it comes to fabrics and fibers, we’re seeing a strong emphasis on interesting felting techniques and tight pintucking. Fabric manipulation will be an important aspect of Autumn/ Winter 2015-16.

Autumn/Winter 2015-16 is the season for dark geometric prints in combination with freeform organic patterns. Like that of an ink spill or stamp, each pattern will be one of a kind. There will also be an emphasis on ombre effects in several of the prints.

trim & accessories

Accessories this season will be dark and chunky. Half gloves and square heels, for example, will dominate the Fahrenheit 451 girls’ wardrobe. The use of a hat or even a heavy bang to cover our eyes will instill mystery and intrigue in every aspect of our lives.

the stranger Albert Camus’s classic novel, THE STRANGER, explores the voyeuristic world through the eyes of an isolated murderer. Throughout the novel, the theme of voyeurism is incorporated to express our interest in the outside world. Human beings are so attracted to Camus’s characters, because as readers, we desire to

discover the stories of real and fictional characters through books and films. We’re seeing a prominent use of sheer fabrics in pale cool greys and rose colored toneswith a strong emphasis on layering. The use of layering sheer chiffons and silks is reminiscent of looking through the curtains of a window.

frankenstein Mary Shelley’s classic harrowing novel, FRANKENSTEIN, explores mans desire to become a God like figure through the creation of life. In order to create life, Dr. Frankenstein took parts from other bodies to create his own creature. As a result, we are seeing a similar theme within the season of Autumn/ Winter 2015-16. There will be a strong emphasis on the natural and scientific world through textural fibers and geometric shapes. The use of saturated

tertiary colors, like green and purple, illustrates the connection between the natural and scientific world. We are also seeing a draw towards uniqueness in silhouette and design. An emphasis in enlarged shoulder pads, for example, will help establish a geometric shape around the body. We suggest that this season is the time to mix and match the smooth with the rough, the hard with the soft, and the geometric with the organic in order to create life for yourself.

the metamorphosis Franz Kafka takes us into his dark and surrealist world in his classic work, THE METAMORPHASIS, by depicting the transformation of man into bug. Insects are a large part of our ecosystem but are often overlooked. This season, we are seeing a comeback of all things bug. We

will be cloaked in shell-like armor from our shoulders down to our toes. Colors such as burnt oranges, muted greens, and deep oxblood will accompany our new outer shell. Autumn/Winter 2015-16 is the time for transformation. We will dress harder and demand respect.
