Whether you join us for two days or two weeks at Miramar, we want you to know that we are committed to doing our part to protect the beautiful environment we share.

Our lush five acres in the heart of the city are tended by BrightView, environmental stewards who rely on carbon offsets and water conservation strategies to preserve the natural landscape. We sponsor beach cleanups and work with Heal the Bay in Santa Monica to help keep our coastal habitats and native plants healthy.

In this issue, we celebrate our partners and our shared values around sustainability, while spotlighting ways we all unite around the goal of “Making a Difference.”

LA Sushi Chef and accomplished fisherman Masa Shimakawa (pictured), delivers a Master Class in quality and refined presentation, with fish that could not be fresher or more flavorful.

Dream BIG and Little Dream Now Available To Go

Shimakawa just introduced Soko-To-Go, an elegant takeaway option packaged in a sustainable bento box, with the playful logo an homage to the original Japanese fishermen who first invented sushi, and the timeless art of making and enjoying it — at Soko, or on the go.

Our new Executive Chef Damon Gordon (center, with Soko Chef Masa Shimakawa and Chef de Cuisine Joe Cook) refined his talents alongside Michelin-star chefs Alain Ducasse, Claude Troisgros and Marco Pierre White. Gordon’s roots are in Ipswich, England. He has helmed kitchens all over the world. We are thrilled to welcome him to Miramar.

Among other innovations, Gordon plans to put an elevated spin on vegan dishes, with marinated Hen of the Woods mushrooms, grilled like a steak and topped with a crispy tempeh and red wine emulsion, for New Year’s Eve. Support for sustainability initiatives along with “using the best ingredients and cooking them perfectly” are just a few priorities for our new Executive Chef.

Created by star mixologist Gianna Johns (pictured), the handsome wooden box is filled with petite bottles and an absinthe mister so that our guests can mix their own elegant Sazerac cocktail.

We are excited to resume our annual holiday tradition, the Meet Me Under the Fig Tree community event, this year. Join us for a day of family fun featuring photos with Santa Claus under the Fig Tree, live music, cookie decorating and nibbles served by FIG.

To continue our tradition of giving, we will partner with Santa MoniCARES to benefit the Westside Food Bank and Chrysalis, nonprofits that provide support services to underserved members of the local community. We will be accepting donations of canned food, new or gently worn clothing, or monetary gifts. Thank you!
