Competitor Handbook


Introduction

Congratulations on your selection as a competitor in one of the six regional heats of Super Trowel 2025.
This handbook contains the competition schedule for the regional events, the rules and the marking criteria identifying how brick deductions will be applied.

The final will be held at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry on the 13 & 14 August 2025

Regional Events
8.30 Competitors arrive (access from 8.30)
9.00 Competitor briefing and lane draw
9.30 Build starter courses (dimensions as given)
10.30 Load out lanes (not timed - skis, boards, 7 x 96-brick stacks on ground with Brickjackets)
11.30 Break
12.00 Personalisation of work areas (+ mortar)
12.30 Super Trowel regional heat starts (60 mins)
13.30 10-minute break
13.40 Jointing up period (20 mins)
14.00 Judging commences
15.00 Results
15.30 Depart venue Timings subject to change with competitor’s agreement


Competition Rules



Competition rules are subject to amendment up to 30 days before the first regional competition, therefore the only source for current information is the rules page accessed via the links below

Construction of Starter Courses



Each team will be given 1-hour to set out and construct the block and brick starter courses as shown in the image below.

*80 bricks per course.


Starter courses should be jointed on completion and prior to competition start.

Starter courses are not included in the final brick total.
Any adjustment to length made by the judges will be final.


Competition Area Set Up

The regional heats do not include a ‘hardest hod’ competition, however a standardised set up is required within the programme.



Each team will be given 1 hour to set up their work area in line with the detail / information below.




Brick stacks are to be formed by 8 bricks per row stacked flat and 12 rows high

Total bricks per stack = 96
Each completed stack will be covered with a Brickjacket. These will be removed prior to the personalisation period (additional 30 minutes)

During the additional 30 minutes ‘personalisation’ period, Brickjackets can be removed and bricks stacked on the boards as required by each bricklayer.



During the 30-minute ‘personalisation’ period, spot boards can also be loaded with mortar. Maximum of 7 boards.

Additional Rules 2025

Mortar joints must be cut flush during the bricklaying portion of the competition.











If there is a joint greater than 50mm long that protrudes by 3mm at any point, it will result in a one off brick deduction of 100 bricks

Both sides and ends of the wall must be tooled and brushed.
If the wall is not completely tooled and brushed this will result in a one off brick deduction of 100 bricks



No foreign objects, tools, accessories or similar shall be laid in the wall above the starter course.
