WELCOME TO BRICK DAYS!

Whether you’re a master builder or just starting out, this weekend is all about celebrating your creativity and passion for building. This will be your guide for the weekend, everything from common lingo in the LEGO world to helpful information and maps. Have fun, connect with fellow builders, and make memories!

Thank you for being part of Brick Days! This event wouldn’t be possible without you. We’re so grateful for the energy and ideas you’re bringing this weekend, and we hope you leave feeling inspired and appreciated. Here’s to building something great together thank you for making it happen!

LEGO User Group; A community or club of LEGO enthusiasts in a specific area who share their passion for building & may organize events or group activities.

DRAFT

Participants select LEGO pieces from a shared pool of 1 set to create their own individual builds.

MOC

My Own Creation; Refers to a LEGO build that is created by a builder rather than a pre-designed set.

AFOL

An adult who collects or builds with LEGO. The AFOL community is a major part of LEGO's fan culture.

WHERE DO I MOVE IN / OUT?

If you are displaying or a vendor; the only entrance/exit is the rear doors. Do not try to load or unload through the front doors as it is against the rules of the Mid-America Center. We value our relationship with the venue so please do not jeopardize it by believing the rules do not apply to you. In the mornings on Thursday and Friday; the front doors are locked and you will need to enter through the back. If you arrive prior to the public hours on Saturday or Sunday again the only entrance is via the back doors.

WHAT ARE THE BRICK DAYS HOURS?

Brick Days will be open for VIB and Friends and Family VIB starting at 8:00am until 7:00pm on Thursday. The venue is locked and secured. The Exhibit Hall is open on Friday for VIB starting at 8:00am (through the back doors) until 10:00pm. The Exhibit Hall is open on Saturday for VIB from 8:00am to 10:00pm and it is open for the public from 10:00am to 5:00pm. On Sunday the Exhibit Hall will be open for VIB at 8:00am with the public invited in at 10:00 am. The public will leave at 4:00pm and we begin tearing down. As much as we want Brick Days to continue; we all must go home.

CAN I BRING IN FOOD / DRINK?

No outside food or drink is permitted into the Mid-America Center. They will have dining options during public hours on Saturday/Sunday at the vending area.

WHERE IS MY TABLE SPACE?

A map of the table locations will be at the Help Desk. The desk is located near the entrance to the Exhibit Hall and will be marked with two large Brick Days and LOLUG flags.

EXPECTATIONS

BE RESPECTFUL

Everyone is excited to be at Brick Days. Please be mindful of displays and do not touch unless you ask permission from the builder. Please keep an eye on your children if they attend with you and remind them to not run or do anything that could jeopardize a display. Theft is not tolerated and the individual will be removed and face legal action.

BADGES / LANYARDS

Once you have your lanyard and badge; it will be required for entrance into the event and must be worn at all times for staff to know if you belong at Brick Days!

To honor our partnership with the Mid-America Center we are going to abide by their policies of ONLY using the back doors to enter & leave the facility. It is their policy that the front doors remain locked so please do not try to enter / exit through them.

There will be food and drinks available at the Mid-America Center for purchase during the public days. Please do not bring outside food and drink into the venue.

Besides the Brick Days public raffle, you must be present to win. If you can not attend; you can not have a proxy. If a winner is not present; a new winner will be randomly chosen.

MINIFIG SPEED BUILD

How fast can you put together LEGO minifigures in two minutes? Legs-TorsoHead-Hat. All VIB and Friends and Family are invited to participate. Trophies for adults, teens and kids. Who will take home the bragging rights this year?

B R I C K B U I L T D E R B Y

Bring a LEGO created derby car to race down the Museum of American Speed’s ramp! The fastest car takes home the trophy. The car must be all LEGO items and can not be modified with non LEGO wheels or weights.

TEAM TRIVIA

Gather up to 8 of your friends and see who has more knowledge of LEGO! One of the most popular contests at Brick Days as teams battle head to head to earn LEGO swag (and bragging rights!)

BUILDING AND MARKETING A LEGO USER GROUP

Join Nate and Maci Flood as they discuss building a LEGO User Group and then marketing it to gain a following and build your brand!

Join Josh Nilson of South Dakota LEGO User Group as he provides an amazing presentation about building landscaping into your LEGO creations.

SORTING AND STORING LEGO

Join Lauren Boswell and she talks about sorting and storing LEGO and her success in finding those tricky storage solutions.

LEGO TRAIN ROUNDTABLE

Join Nate Flood and other like minded LEGO Train enthusiasts as they discuss the train hobby!

SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

The most amazing part of Brick Days is when the lights of the venue are turned off and the lights of the creations are used to light the hall. It is a truly magical experience and should not be missed! Worried about dinner before the lights are turned off? Don’t! We will be supplying Raising Canes chicken and bread on Saturday at 5:30pm. If you don’t have Raising Canes in your area; you will not be disappointed!

T H U R S D A Y N I G H T M I X E R

Meet and greet your fellow LEGO fans on Thursday at Full Fledged Brewing Company, located right outside the front doors of the Mid-America Center. This is an amazing opportunity to network and meet like-minded LEGO enthusiasts! Big Kel’s Pizza and Runza will be provided. Cheers!

OPENING CEREMONIES

Opening ceremonies kicks off the weekend! Brick Days welcomes our VIBs with a variety of raffle prizes (must be present to win)!

GARAGE SALE

Do you have sets, figs, parts, etc. that are LEGO related and need a new home? Bring them to the garage sale to make some quick cash or come to look for that hard to find LEGO set!

AWARD CATEGORIES

The Brick Days awards committee will determine 3-4 nominations per category by Friday evening and they will be uploaded to a Google form for voting by Saturday morning at 9:00 am. You will be able to access the Google form from the QR code on the back of your lanyard. Once the form goes live; you will have until Sunday morning at 9:00 am to vote for your favorite creation. The trophies will be placed by 10:00am on Sunday.

BUILDER OF THE PLAINS

This award winner represents the best of all builders at Brick Days. It is not about the size of the display. It is about the artistic and engineering innovation, imagination, and originality contained in this individual’s creations. The winner not only receives a trophy but will be enshrined on the Brick Days Trophy with an engraved brick with their name. The Brick Days Trophy is displayed at every Brick Days event and is a photo opportunity for guests.

YOUTH AWARD

This award goes to the creation constructed by a youth fan 12 years old or younger showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors.

TEEN BUILD

This award goes to the creation constructed by a youth fan 13 years old to 17 years old showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors.

THEME BUILD | PIONEERS

This award goes to the creation that best embodies this year’s theme. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

ARTWORK

This award goes to an art creation showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors.No size requirements.

AWARD CATEGORIES

CREATURE

This award goes to the living creature (can be a bust or a complete creature) showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

WATER VEHICLE

This award goes to the water vehicle showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

LAND VEHICLE

This award goes to the non-train land vehicle showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

TRAIN

This award goes to the train engine or train car showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

AIRCRAFT

This award goes to the aircraft showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

LARGE BUILDING

This award goes to the large architectural building showing the most innovation, imagination, and originality. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. Size requirements: Base larger than 32 studs in either or both dimensions.

SMALL OBJECT, SCENE OR LAYOUT

Capture a small moment in brick! This award goes to the small non-architectural creation depicting an object, a scene or a moment in time. LARGE OBJECT, SCENCE OR LAYOUT

Go big or go home! This award goes to the large non-architectural creation depicting an object, scene or layout. Details that include creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are key factors. No scale requirements. Size requirement: Base larger than 32 studs in either or both dimensions.

POP CULTURE

This award for the creation that best replicates something in pop culture. Pop Culture can refer to things like art, literature, fashion, dance, film, television or magazines. Things such as detail, creative use of color, unique use of pieces, and overall appeal are deciding factors. No size requirements.

BRICK DAYS AWARD

(Open voting) This award is a ‘Best in Show’ decided by votes of the general public.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

(Judged) Best lighted display judged by the Brick Days Committee.

JUDGES’ AWARD

(Judged) Awarded at judges’ discretion.

MINIFIG SPEED BUILD

(Competition Award) 3 categories: Youth (12 and under), Teen (13 years - 17 years), Adult (18 and older)

BRICK BUILT DERBY

(Competition Award) 1 category. Build a LEGO built derby car to send down the Museum of American Speed’s ramp. Fastest car takes the checkered flag! Requirements: Must be 100% LEGO-brand parts. No aftermarket wheels, axels, weights, graphite or other lubricants, etc.
