COACH BIos

CARRIE YERTY - Head Coach Varsity

With over 28 years of coaching experience; Coach Yerty brings a wealth of knowledge to the program. She served as a college volleyball coach for over 20 years and is the all-time winningest coach at The Universi ty of Memphis. Coach Yerty was named the head coach at Briarcrest in December 2017. In her inaugural season, the Saints went 40-2 enroute to the 2018 TSSAA Division II State Championship. She led the Saints to additional, consecutive TSSAA Division II State Championships in 2019 and 2020.

A standout athlete, she excelled as a middle blocker at Washington State University where she racked up numerous accolades along the way:

• Pac 10 All Conference • Pac 10 All-Decade Team • Washington State Career Record Holder *multiple categories • All-American • Member of the USA National Team

Coach Yerty on why she chose Briarcrest: “I wanted to be part of an institution that prioritized inspiring young men and women in becoming authentic followers of Christ.”

APRIL JAUREGUI - Assistant Coach Varsity

With over 20 years in the coaching profession, April brings experience as a college, high school and club coach. Upon retiring from a career in college coaching from the University of Memphis, April served as a guid ance counselor and volleyball program director at First Assembly Christian School. April also serves as the Director of Youth Development and the Recruiting Coordinator for the Memphis Volleyball Academy.

She played for Coach Yerty at the University of Memphis from 1997-2001 where she was an Academic All-American. April joined the Briarcrest staff in June of 2019 and also serves at the High School College Counselorfor BCS.

April Jauregui on why she chose Briarcrest:“Briarcrest has a rich tradition of academic and athletic success. Here at Briarcrest, I have the amazing opportunity to serve the Lord and share the Gospel, not only with the players I coach, but the community at large. We have such a big platform to glorify and honor Him!”

WENDY STEWART - Head Coach Junior Varsity

Wendy returned to the Briarcrest family as the high school Latin teacher and brings 25 years of experience to the volleyball program.

She began her coaching career upon graduating from Briarcrest in 1998. She spent over 10 years serving n a variety of coaching roles, from 6th grade to the varsity level. Between her years at Briarcrest, she taught Latin and coached volleyball at Woodland Presbyterian School. Wendy also serves as the Assistant Director of Viper Volleyball Club in Collierville, TN and specializes in coaching the 14s and 15s elite age divisions.

Wendy Stewart on why she chose Briarcrest: “As an alumna, I know how special Briarcrest is. It is where I learned to succeed academically, it is where I fell in love with volleyball, and most importantly, it is where I met Christ and gave my life to Him. It is truly an honor and a blessing to be called back to serve our students and athletes, both on the court, and in the classroom.”

JACOB HOLBERT - Head Coach Freshman

Jacob joined the Briarcrest staff in July of 2020 and serves as the 6th grade Bible teacher in the Middle School.

Prior to coming to BCS, he coached 15s girls club at TAV Houston and has over 5 years of experience working camps and clinics within the 6A district of Texas high school volleyball. As a graduate of Liberty Univer sity, he was a four-year starter on the men’s indoor volleyball team andcompeted on the beach team as well. Serving as the first male coach on volleyball staff, Jacob will help bring a new dynamic and perspective to the program.

Jacob Holbert on why he chose Briarcrest: “One of my greatest desires is to see young people grow in their walk with the Lord. At Briarcrest, not only are there opportunities to excel inthe classroom and on the field, but there is an emphasis made on stu dents hearing the gospel – and that is what drew me in the most.”
