EXAMINED ALTERNATIVE LIVING MODELS AND POSSIBILITIES AND DEVELOPED PROJECTS THAT BETTER SERVE THE CHANGING MODELS OF HOW SOCIETY LIVES AND PUSH PAST DISCIPLINE’S ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT HOUSING, THIS PROJECT CREATED MODULARIZED HOUSING UNITS DESIGNED WITH REMOVABLE PARTITION WALLS TO ACCOMPANY FLEXIBLE USES AND MANIPULATED INTERIOR SPACE THAT EXPLORED THE INTERCHANGEABLE NATURE BETWEEN CO-LIVING AND CO-HOUSING CONDITIONS. FURTHER PUSHING FORWARD WITH THE MODULARITY DESIGN, THE RESIDENT ARE GIVEN THE FREEDOM TO CHANGE THE FACADE OF THE BUILDING USING PRE-FABRICATED WINDOW PANELS THAT CAN BE EASILY SWITCHED ON AND OFF ONTO THE FRAMING OF THE WINDOW, THUS CREATING DIFFERENT FACADE AS THE TIME MOVE FORWARD WITH NEW RESIDENTS MOVES IN. THE CIRCULATION SITE IS ON THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING, AND LAYS NATURALLY ACROSS THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE SITE, CREATING VISUAL CONNECTION ACROSS ALL THE UNITS IN THE PROPERTY, AND ENCOURAGING INTERACTION BETWEEN RESIDENTS. ON THE BASEMENT LEVEL WHERE EACH UNIT IS GIVEN TWO STORAGE UNITS FOR PERSONAL ITEMS AND EXTRA PANELS. AND BETWEEN THE STORAGE ROOM THERE ARE 2 PARKING SPACES AND WITH A TOTAL OF 10 PARKING SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THE RESIDENTS.

WITH THE GROWING POPULATION IN THE BOOMING SILVERLAKE CITY, SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO THE CENTER OF LOS ANGELES, A EAGER NEED FOR MORE HOUSING UNITS ESPECIALLY FOR THE MARKETED YOUNGER PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR PLACES TO STAY. THIS MIX USE HOUSING PROJECT CONSISTED OF A TOTAL OF 10 UNITS THAT MIX AND MATCH BETWEEN STUDIO, 1 BEDROOM, 2 BEDROOM, AND LUXURY TYPE WITH GROUNDFLOOR GYM ACCESS AND BASEMENT PARKING AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTS. THE PROJECT AIMED TO HAVE A CURVE WITHIN THE CENTER OF ALL UNITS TO CREATE A PUBLIC, COURTYARD SPACE AND ROOF DECK ACCESS THAT BREAKS AWAY FROM THE STRICT GRID-LIKE DESIGN, BRINGING A MORE LIVELY LIVING EXPERIENCE AND BETTER INTERACTION BETWEEN THE RESIDENTS AND THE PROGRAMS THAT SANDWITCHED BETWEEN UNITS THEMSELVES.
HAVING CHALLENGES WITH THE DESIGN ITSELF, THE PROJECT ALSO TOOK INTO CONSIDERATION OF THE STRUCTURE AND THE POSITION OF HAVE SYSTEM AND THE ROUTING OF THE WIRE FOR THE POSITION OF THE LIGHT, USING OUR LEARNING FROM THE STRUCTURE CLASS THAT ASSISTED IN THE PRODUCTION OF A DESIGN DRAWING AND CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS.
OUTLOOKT RETREAT
VETTER MOUNTAIN, LOCATED IN THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS AND WITHIN THE ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, CALIFORNIA, IS THIS RETREAT, DEDICATED TO SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE FOR SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS AND MUSEUMS. THE DESIGN TOOK INTO CONSIDERATION OF THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE AND ITS EXTREME WEATHER CONDITION IN MIND, A CANTILEVER HANG ON TOP AND ACROSS THE PEAK OF A SELECTED HILL, GIVING THIS RESEARCH RETREAT A ALL AROUND VIEW OF THE NATIONAL FOREST, COMPLETELY ISOLATING ITSELF FROM CIVILIZATION, A SOLDEM SENSATION OF THIS OBJECT GIVES WHILE DURING THE CHILLING WINTER OR THE NIGHT OF THE SUMMER. REVOLVING AROUND THE STRUCTURE THAT CAN WITHSTAND ALL THE POSSIBLE PROGRAMS WITHIN IT. THE RESEARCH QUARTER AND VISITING CENTER ARE LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE HILL, WITH A SLOPED ROOF THAT FOLLOWS THE ANGLE OF THE SLOPED HILL, THAT LEADS ACROSS THE BRIDGE THAT CONNECTS TO THE LIVING QUARTER THAT HAS TWO BEDROOMS ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER AND A LIVING AND KITCHEN SPACE THAT FURTHER EXTENDED OUT TO FRAME THE VIEW OF THE MOUNTAINS. WHAT SITS BELOW THE PRIVATE SPACES ARE 2 PARKING SPACES, AND A PUBLIC STAIRCASE FOR A SECONDARY CIRCULATION TO COMPENSATE FOR A QUICKER AND MORE DIRECT CIRCULATION TO THE TOP OF THE ROOF DECK AND VISITOR CENTER.

A REITERATION OF THE ICONIC STRONG GEOMETRICAL FORM DESIGN WAS PURPOSED FOR THE STUDENT CENTER LOCATED AT CALIFORNIA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY. AFTER A LONG EVALUATION, AND REPURPOSING OF THE BUILDING, THE PROJECT OF REPURPOSING THE BUILDING BEGAN TO RISE, AS THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE NEEDED TO EXPAND OR RELOCATED ITS CURRENT STUDIO AND CLASSROOM TO BE IN THE CENTER OF THE CAMPUS AND HAVE A BETTER LOCATION AND A MORE ICONIC BUILDING TO REPRESENT THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE THAT IS ONE OF THE FOCI OF CAL POLY POMONA.
THE DESIGN CONSIST OF TWO PORTION OF SPACES, ONE IS THE GROUND FLOOR PORTION OF THE PUBLIC COURTYARD THAT REPURPOSE THE FLAT OUTDOOR SPACES FOR STUDENT AND TEACHER TO OCCUPY. AND THE SECOND PORTION OF THE TOWER IS BEEN SPLIT IN THE MIDDLE TO SUBDIVIDE THE UNDER AND UPPDER CLASSMEN WHILE HAVING OFFICES BETWEEN THE FLOORS.
