Course Descriptions
Session 1: 3:15 - 4:00 p.m.

Balancing Work & Personal Lives:
Provider: Susan Goldstein, EAP
Description: “Life balance” means successfully distributing your time and energy across the key areas of your life. This seminar will help you identify your priorities, aid in setting personal and professional goals, and offer strategies to address potential obstacles that may arise in the process of achieving them.
Stress and Resilience:
Provider: Karen Allen, EAP
Description: This workshop provides a new way to think about stress and focuses on strengthening your resilience skills. It focuses on how you can change your response to stress and offers various techniques for relaxation and mindfulness. It provides a menu of options and techniques as time permits.
Meeting the Challenges of Eldercare:
Provider: Tracy Thibert, EAP
Description: Are you one of the more than 50 million individuals who currently provides care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aging family member or friend? It can be especially challenging to provide optimal care for your loved one and maintain your own physical and emotional health while doing so. Caregivers require as much outside assistance and support as possible to manage successfully and maintain their own health and well-being. This training highlights navigating the process of changing roles, proper planning, and the potential impact on your employment. It identifies some potential stressors of caregiving, links for caregiving support, and the special Eldercare benefits available through your Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Description: This Yoga & Wellness Class is accessible and open to all levels. Seasoned teachers will offer a relaxing and nurturing experience that will include gentle movement and guided meditation. This self-care experience will be capped off with aromatherapy for those who would like it.
Cooking/Nutrition Seminar:
Location: Cafeteria
Provider: The Organic Teaching Kitchen
Description: Participants will learn to make a nutrient-dense kale salad, including: which variety of kale to use, time-saving techniques to wash, remove the veins, and make those leaves soft and palatable by massaging the kale. They will season and dress the kale using organic ingredients. Participants will also learn nuggets of wisdom and tips, from food shopping to stocking a pantry, simplified food prepping and cooking techniques using seasonal, local and whole foods.

Description: This introduction to Pickleball will include instruction in team building and the opportunity to play the game itself.
Cardio Boxing:
Location: Tappan Classroom 10
Description: The cardio boxing class provides a high energy and a dynamic workout that combines elements of traditional boxing and cardio exercises. We focus a little bit more on technique than other cardio classes, as we like for the participants to get all the benefits of traditional boxing without getting hit. In addition to the physical benefits, this class provides stress relief and an opportunity to develop self-defense skills. It is designed to accommodate participants of all fitness levels. Participants will be holding punch pads for one another and should wear workout clothing and bring water.

Healthy snacks will be provided at all sites by the Southern Westchester BOCES Food Service Department.

Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace:

Description: This introductory seminar defines emotional intelligence, why it is a critical skill, misconceptions about it, and the five emotional intelligence competencies: self-awareness, empathy, social skills, self-regulation, and motivation. Case Studies and strategies will be reviewed to increase skills as time permits.
Introduction to Mindfulness:

Description: Our busy lives, as well as challenging times, can make it difficult to be mindful and slip into living on “autopilot,” Participants will explore the meaning of mindfulness, identify its many benefits, and explore how to bring mindfulness to our daily lives to become more present, resilient, and adaptive to stress. This training will include interactive practices and discussion.

HOW TO ENROLL IN COURSES THROUGH MLP:

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can I travel to a different site than my own to take an in-person class?
A: Yes, employees can leave their site at 2:30 to travel to another location, but they must stay at that site from 3-5 p.m. They cannot travel to another location for the 4:15 session.
Q: If someone signs up for Pickle Ball or Basketball, do they have to stay for both time slots?
A: Yes, Pickle Ball and Basketball are two-hour sessions. People who enroll must stay from 3-5 p.m.
Q: Do Pickle Ball and Basketball really begin at 3 p.m. All other early session program are listed as starting at 3:15?
A: Yes, Pickle Ball and Basketball begin at 3 p.m. and end at 5 p.m.
Q: Are St. Matthew’s and Irvington only having virtual offerings?
A: Yes. In-person offerings are only at Rye Lake, CTE and Tappan Hill, but these offerings are open to everyone.
Q: Are there limits on class sizes for some of the offerings?
A: Yes, classes will be closed out when the maximum number of enrollees is reached. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q: What if I am shut out of a class?
A: There are other options available, including the virtual offerings through EAP, which do not have an enrollment limit.
Q: Do we have to sign in for each activity?
A: No, we are not collecting sign-in sheets at any sessions. These courses do not qualify for CTLE credits.
Q: Can CSEA, Teamsters, Administrators and Confidential Employees participate?
A: Yes
