t Brewster Academy, students bring the arts to life. Whether on the stage, in music ensembles, or in dance productions students and faculty collaborate to create performances of all varieties, taking the audience along for the ride. With a long tradition of arts education, Brewster is preparing to renovate Anderson Hall to create a true home for the performing arts and a center of community and connection. “When I came to Brewster, I found myself drawn to the sense of community within the BA Arts. Painting, Sculpting, Acting, Dancing, Singing…they have all left me with something and helped me shape my growth as a human being.”

—Taylor Cantrall ‘13 For many Brewster students, the arts serve to challenge their assumptions, help them to make connections to other academic areas and to the community, and oftentimes see the world and themselves in a new light. For others, the arts help them to find their voice, an ability to express themselves, and explore newfound interests or talents. At Brewster, arts education is a key aspect of our mission to educate the whole student. Currently, Brewster students are able to take any number of performing arts courses including theatre, music (choral and instrumental), and dance – all under the direction of accomplished faculty. Studio, visual and media arts classes are also popular aspects of Brewster’s well-rounded arts

An intelligent society respects and appreciates art.” —Marilyn Shea, Academic Dean Brewster Academy To support the continued growth of the arts at Brewster, the Academy seeks $2.5 million to expand and renovate Anderson Hall, creating a state-of-the-art performance venue that will meet the Academy’s needs and provide students with opportunities to advance not only their performing abilities, but also their knowledge and skills in producing theatre through learning lighting and sound techniques as well as set design practices.
