The Town of Discovery Bay is looking for an independent contractor to provide a preschool program at the Discovery Bay Community Center. The idea to have some sort of preschool program has been floated by town staff for the last two years, but so far no one has stepped up. “The community center could possibly provide an ideal location for this type of programming, generating additional daily foot traffic, and since it would be see School page 30

tudents from the Byron Union School District recently participated in a week-long RadKIDS program at the Discovery Bay Community Center. The nonprofit national organization is designed to empower children and parents with skill-based curriculum that strengthens children’s personal boundaries and fosters parental confidence. Topics included understanding predator tricks, resistance strategies for preventing abduction, internet safety and how to stay safe at home, in school and in public places such as parks. Contra Costa County and seven nearby cities, including Brentwood and Oakley, are expected to join forces on a long-range plan to enhance the economic vitality of the area’s northern waterfront. The regional economic development strategy will position the county’s northern waterfront — the 55-mile stretch along the shoreline of the Carquinez Straits and Suisun Bay, to the confluence of the SacramentoSan Joaquin Rivers, parallel to State Route 4 — to be a 21stcentury economic asset, attracting unique companies and advanced manufacturing jobs.
