Civic Center gets underway by Rick Lemyre Staff Writer The vision of the downtown Brentwood of the future officially broke ground on Tuesday, as politicians from all across East County gathered with school officials, construction company executives and even a U.S. congressman to celebrate the start of work on Brentwood’s new downtown civic center. “This is a town that has a lot of vision,” Congressman Jerry McNerney told a crowd of about 100 gathered in City Park for the event. “I always enjoy coming to Brentwood, because it’s the place to be, and this is going to make it more so.” Mayor Bob Taylor welcomed, and thanked, members of the current and previous city councils who helped bring the decade-long project to the fruition. When completed in 2012, the project will include a 60,000-square-foot city hall, a 32,000-square-foot community center, a 280-space park-

Police are stepping up patrols in and around Creekside Park in the wake of a stabbing on a nearby trail on Monday.

Brentwood police are ramping up coverage of Creekside Park in the wake of a stabbing on Monday of a 15-yearold. Lt. Doug Silva of the BPD said officers responding to a call about 5:25 p.m. were flagged down by the victim, who collapsed near the children’s play area in the park. He was flown to John Muir Medical Center with a non-life-threatening wound to the upper torso, according to reports. Silva said 21-year-old Todd Lindgren was detained following a sweep of the area, and was turned over to the East Bay Regional Park Police, who have jurisdiction over the Marsh Creek Trail. The attack was believed to have occurred on the trail in the tunnel beneath Balfour Road, and not actually in the park, according to Lt. Manuel Misquez of the BPD.
