Rash of robberies Pullet surprise continues; police report progress by Dave Roberts Staff Writer

A woman was robbed of her purse in the parking lot of the Rave Theatre in the Streets of Brentwood lifestyle center around 7 p.m. on Jan. 21 by two Hispanic males, one of whom displayed a handgun, according to police. Meanwhile, police report progress in other recent crimes that have occured around the city. The most recent victim was with another woman walking through the lot on the south side of the theater when they were approached by the robbers. One woman gave up her purse while the other resisted and didn’t let them take her purse. The robbers then fled westbound behind the theater. Neither woman was injured. Both robbers were de-

scribed as 5-feet-6-inches and 150 pounds. One, whose age is unknown, was wearing a gray, zip-up, hooded sweatshirt with a black design, baggy blue jeans and a white and black bandana covering his face. The other robber was described as in his late teens, with a thin build, dark hair, wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and an unknown-colored bandana covering his face. There is no information connecting the Rave robbers with the recent rash of robberies and assaults at Brentwood businesses and in the downtown area, according to Sgt. Mark Misquez. Police are investigating whether the two men who robbed a Walgreens in Brentwood are the same two who

Heritage coach arrested on morals charges by Dave Roberts Staff Writer

Heritage High School math teacher and girls basketball Coach Darin Price was arrested Friday on three counts of immoral conduct with a female minor and was being held in lieu of $95,000 bail at the Martinez Detention Facility on Tuesday afternoon, according to police. Brentwood Police Lt. Tom Hansen declined to describe what Price is alleged to have done, but he did say Price is accused of annoying or molesting a minor, contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense, and arranging to meet a minor for sex. “The investigator is still investigating this guy. So I am limited on what I can tell you right now,” said Hansen. He did state that he doesn’t believe there was a romantic relationship be-

tween Price and the minor. Orland Caban, an assistant coach for the varsity girls team the last three years and father of star player Kiana Caban, will be taking over coaching duties while Price takes “some personal time,” according to Heritage Athletic Director Pat Cruickshank. “That was the easiest transition to try to keep things as close to being the same as they can be. I don’t know much, except at this point it’s a personnel issue.” Asked whether he thinks losing its coach might be a distraction for the team, Cruickshank said Tuesday afternoon, “I am not really concerned. I watched part of practice yesterday. I thought it was a good practice. Kids are kids and they can react to things and bounce back quick. I am looking for them to play hard and have a good see Arrest page 18A
