Located under Wembley Stadium’s iconic arch and in the heart of one of the UK’s most culturally diverse communities, Brent Civic Centre has many licensed rooms for you to enjoy your special day.

The Brent Civic Centre is a modern contemporary space, featuring lots of natural light and space. We even have a charming ceremonial garden space, furnished with a canopy, heaters and lighting – perfect for those who want an outdoor ceremony, whatever time of the year.

As Superintendent Registrar in Brent, I am passionate about making sure your special event runs smoothly. My team can talk you through the layouts and capacities of each room and what would work best for your ceremony.

Our ceremonies suite features some of the best photo opportunities to capture a truly memorable ceremony; a flowered arch, flower wall and love lights. Wembley Park also features a love heart and fountains, making this a remarkable location for your ceremony.

We are proud of the Brent Civic Centre’s green credentials as a BREEAM accredited, green energy efficient building. It has good bus, tube and rail links, making it easily accessible.

Free car parking is available for the ceremony couple, and there are various affordable parking options for guests including in the Brent Civic Centre and around Wembley.

Once the ceremony is over, you can carry on the celebrations in one of the Brent Civic Centre’s many event spaces, or the wide range of restaurants, bars, dessert lounges, pubs and cafes, all conveniently located on our doorstep.

LEGAL STEPS TO ARRANGE YOUR MARRIAGE OR CIVIL PARTNERSHIP CEREMONY

The first thing you need to decide is where you want to hold your ceremony. You can choose to do this at:

Once you have submitted your legal notice of intention you have to wait a minimum of 29 days before you can hold the marriage or civil partnership ceremony.

1. Register office We have 10 licenced spaces within Brent Civic Centre, Wembley, which includes our Ceremonies Suite and The Ceremonial Gardens where you can get married or have a civil partnership ceremony.

2. An approved premises There are a number of venues across Brent that are licenced to hold a civil ceremony. Visit www.brent.gov.uk for the approved premises list.

If you require immigration clearance, you must wait a minimum of 71 days before arranging your ceremony.

You have up to 1 2 months from the date of your legal notice of intention to hold your ceremony. Payment for the ceremony must be made one month before the ceremony date.

3. Religious building If you want a faith-led ceremony, visit www.gov.uk for a list of places of worship registered for marriages and civil partnerships.

HOW TO GIVE LEGAL NOTICE

We have good relationships with a number of local suppliers and can also provide:

If you are arranging a civil marriage or partnership, the first thing you must do is give legal notice of your intention.

Both you and your partner must book a face-to-face appointment, where you will need to show the Registrar a number of documents to prove your identity and immigration status and that you are free to enter into a marriage or join in a civil partnership. Legal notice can be given in England and Wales where either party has been living for eight clear days prior to the appointment. One of you must be a Brent resident to give notice with us.

ON THE DAY Before you make your big entrance, we will make a few last minute checks: Pre-interview: This happens 15 minutes before the ceremony and is to check that the information you gave us at the time of giving the legal notices is still accurate.

Payment: You need to have made the full payment for the ceremony and any certificates required at least one month before the date of your ceremony.

Witnesses: You need a minimum of two witnesses to attend your ceremony. This is a mandatory requirement for the ceremony to go ahead.

We are a team of professional, flexible, dedicated, diverse, and multilingual individuals. The team hold a wealth of registration experience and are one of the only register offices in the country providing customers with services seven days a week. We are here to assist you with advice on how to take the necessary legal steps to proceed with a civil marriage or civil partnership and the continual changes in law which may impact on choices available to you.

The register office legally capture all your life defining moments through the natural cycle of life; births, deaths, civil marriages, civil partnerships, and citizenship ceremonies. If you have been married or joined in civil partnership - why not celebrate with a Renewal of Vows ceremony to one another, or celebrate the birth of your new born baby with your family and friends in a non-religious Baby Naming Ceremony to mark the joyous occasion.

What are the differences and similarities in Civil Marriage and Civil Partnership?

CIVIL MARRIAGE AND CIVIL PARTNERSHIP – DIFFERENCES

CIVIL MARRIAGE AND CIVIL PARTNERSHIP – SIMILARITIES

• A civil marriage is formed by the words of contract and declaration followed by the signing of a schedule.

A civil partnership is formed by just the signing of the schedule. Couples can opt to have a ceremony if they wish.

• Fees are the same for civil marriages and civil partnership registration.

• For married couples you are known as husband/wife, husband/husband, or wife/wife and in death known as widow/widower. Those that have joined in a civil partnership are known as civil partners, and in death, surviving civil partners.

• Civil marriages end in divorce whereas civil partnerships end in dissolution.

WORDS OF DECLARATION AND CONTRACT FOR A CIVIL MARRIAGE These are the legal words you are required to say on the day for a civil marriage.

• Couples benefit from shared property rights, pension benefits and parental responsibilities.

• Gives your relationship legal recognition.

• Same sex and opposite sex marriages and civil partnerships can now take place, however, may not yet be recognised in other countries around the world.

We recommend that you contact the Embassy where you are relocating or travelling to.

THERE ARE NO LEGAL WORDS REQUIRED TO FORM A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP, BUT WHY NOT CREATE SOME SPECIAL VOWS All words can be personalised. Example:

I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I (name) may not be joined in matrimony to (name).

I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful reason why I (name) may not be joined in civil partnership to (name).

At this stage a ring, or rings may be given or exchanged, although there is no legal requirement to do so. Rings can also be exchanged after the contractual words.

I declare that I know of no legal reason why we may not register as each other’s civil partner, I understand that on signing this document we will be forming a civil partnership with each other.

I call upon these persons here present to witness that I (name) do take thee (name) to be my lawful wedded wife/husband.

CEREMONIAL GARDENS For those who enjoy an outdoor setting, discover our large, landscaped Ceremonial Gardens, complete with a canopy area and draped fairy lights to provide a stunning setting for any celebratory event morning, afternoon or evening.

OLYMPIC VIEW

The Grand Hall and adjoining Winter Garden is a stunning, double-height circular space capable of hosting up to 750 people. It is the perfect space for you and your loved ones to celebrate together, in style. The hall is licensed for civil ceremonies and religious weddings, has professional lighting, and starlight draping which adds a truly enchanting touch to any celebration.

Olympic View is the ideal space to relax and enjoy the serenity of The Winter Garden apart from the bustle of the main event inside The Grand Hall.

THE WINTER GARDEN

With floor to ceiling windows and an abundance of natural light, this space is open and welcoming and can host 20-160 guests depending on the set-up.

The Bridge is the perfect space to compliment The Grand Hall, Winter Garden and Olympic View spaces.

The Bridge overlooks The Atrium and features the Wembley Arch as a backdrop, with the Wembley Area and Square below.

THE ATRIUM As you enter the building you are greeted by the magnificent Atrium which soars six floors upwards and is topped by a spectacular bubble roof.

The space is flooded with natural light and the grand staircase doubles as amphitheatre seating. Here audiences can view a variety of events taking place on the sweeping marble floor below.

The Atrium also offers a great setting for informal receptions.

THE CONFERENCE HALL

The Venue The Drum is a dry hire venue. This means you hire the space(s) from us and are then free to bring your own suppliers such as caterers, DJs, and wedding dressers. We feel this provides more flexibility and choice, so you can plan the wedding you want. We do request that catering companies have a minimum 4-Star food hygiene rating and that all suppliers have the necessary liability insurance.

Audio Visual Services

By day the Conference Hall is flooded with natural light from a stunning glass lantern centrally located in the roof and can be hired with or without a large, digital display.

Our in-house, fully equipped AV services can support anything from simple requests such as providing a roving microphone to designing a full sound and lighting package that will impress and entertain you and your guests.

The Conference Hall is suitable for wedding ceremonies and receptions for up to 150 guests depending on room layout.

Our technicians will work closely with you and recommend technical and creative ideas to enhance your wedding day, whilst maximising your budget.

The Conference Hall is surrounded by eight Boardrooms which offer maximum flexibility for events that require additional space to compliment an event.

Hybrid Weddings

Our boardrooms have the capability to connect up to four rooms together to provide a more flexible space, accommodating events from 8-100 guests.

Share your special day with friends and family from all over the world who are not able to attend your wedding in person.

Hybrid weddings allow you to include everyone – you won’t have to cut down on your guests list to meet venue capacity limits.

The Boardrooms compliment the use of the Conference Hall perfectly as they offer direct access to and from the space.

Our professional audio–visual team and built-in specialised equipment will give your remote guests the feeling that they are with you in person.

Four of our boardrooms boast views of the Wembley Arch and Square and feature direct access to a vast outdoor terrace which is a perfect addition for smaller wedding receptions and ceremonies.
