Shooting For The Stars By : Teresa Kenney The Girls' Varsity Soccer team ended the 1988 season with a 17-2-1 record and for the fourth consecutive year, were ranked number one in the CVC division. Coach Sandy Koschek said, "They all have been a fantastic bunch of athletes to work with. They definitely continued the proud tradition of Irish soccer!" these four girls have been the backbone of the team for the past four years . Junior player Heather Layton added, "The seniors were really supportive and will be really missed." The most exciting games of the season, according to Mrs. Koschek, were the Ewing and Kerney games. "Ewing has been the school rival because every year. The newspapers say it is the team to bedt: When we played them, their record was 9 and 0, and they had given up only one goal the whole season. We beat them 2-1 ."
This is the third year in a row that the Irish won big over Ewing . "Beating Ewing was one of the highlights of our season. It was our big rival. After the game, Mrs. Koschek treated us to pizza," said senior Gwyn Caldwell. In the Kerney game, Notre Dame was down 3-1 going into the fourth quarter. During the fourth quarter, ND tied Kerney and they went into overtime, where the lr~sh ended up with a victory over the number one team from Hudson County.
