Who & Where* While I currently do not have a specific company that I intend on working for, there are a variety of amazing businesses that have caught my attention as potential places of future employment. Who & Where*

The major players (and UCOL).*

CONDÉNAST Condé Nast are the people behind publications like Allure, Bon Apétit, Details, Glamour, GQ, Vanity Fair and Vogue. Their main office is the Condé Nast Building, 4 Times Square, New York. So really for me this is the dream. Condé Nast have an online Candidate Profile builder, which they expect all potential candidates to complete as a part of any job application. This will be my first ‘port-of-call’ when working towards gaining employment at Vanity Fair.

JONESGROUP Jones Group, are the owners of several major fashion labels in the US including Nine West and Gloria Vanderbilt. Although they do not deal specifically with my skill set, I may have the opportunity to work alongside their ‘Creative Director Handbags’ in an internship programme. As this is in New York and has the potential to lead to a great deal of other opportunities, this is an option that I will be investigating further.

UCOL My current position in the Business Development team at UCOL has allowed me to gain experience in design, design thinking / service design, strategy and planning, and business. An opportunity that I am very grateful for and have learnt a lot from. The chance to continue working in such a great team and gain more contacts and experience, as well as a solid income, is definitely something not to be overlooked. This would be a fantastic stepping stone to other great opportunities.

Who & Where*

The other key interest is starting my own design agency here in Palmerston North.*

WHENIGROWUP When I grow up, is an idea that a group of about six third year design majors have been throwing around. A collaborative venture that would combine both the multidisciplinary learning that we have with our own individual interests and talents. Based here in Palmerston North, we feel that our unique and varied skill set would fill a gap in the design market in this region. Our main competitor would be Black Sheep Design, and while they are a strong agency we feel that they are lacking in vision. We believe that our combined talent would allow us to tap into parts of the market, outside of pure graphic design and branding. We would branch into strategy / design thinking / social design / motion graphics/ publication and communication design with the ability to also include other disciplines such as film and photography. The business would be run by all six of us, collaboratively. We believe in the design process as a holistic approach to business and so would be applying that thinking to all aspects from the general running of the company to dealing with clients individual needs. In the future we would like to see the business grow into both a national and international market, with offices in Australia within the first 5 years. A big ask we know, but we’ve got the determination and the talent to make it happen.
