Magellan was born in 1480.
He was from Portugal. His ships were the first to travel around the world.
Magellan was dead in 1521.
Magellan was born here.
why did they go on their journey? Magellan wanted to find spice island.
Magellan liked traveling the world.
He also wanted to discover new things.
This is the spice island.
What happened on the journey? In September 1519 Magellan left Spain with five ships.
He went towards Brazil and down the east cost of South America.
A year after setting sail from Spain,Magellan sailed through a narrow passage named Strait of Magellan.
This is Magellan's voyage.
He was crossing the Pacific Ocean for 98 days.
Magellan reached Guam in March 1521,then sailed on to Philippines, where he was killed in a battle.
Juan Sebastian del cano took the ship back to Spain.
In September 1522 they landed back in Spain with 18 men.
This is where Guam is.
How did their discovery change the world?
Magellan proved that the world was round.
He found the Strait of Magellan,two star clusters and a penguin which was named after him
