Günter Habicht (1916–2010) studierte 1935–1939 am Konservatorium in Dresden bei Herbert Viecenz und Boris Blacher (Musiktheorie und Komposition) sowie bei Walther Meyer-Giesow und Ernst Hintze (Dirigieren). Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg lebte er einige Zeit als Musiker, Hilfsarbeiter und zeitweise ohne Arbeit in Westdeutschland. 1949 kam er in die DDR und wirkte zunächst als Tanzmusiker in Pirna. 1951 wurde Günter Habicht Grundschullehrer in Leipzig, 1952 Fachdozent für Musik am Zentralhaus für Volkskunst. Von 1955 bis 1981 war er Lehrer für Musiktheorie und Klarinette an der Musikschule Leipzig-Stadt.
Neben Musik für Volksinstrumente und Beiträgen zur Unterrichtsliteratur schrieb Günter Habicht Werke für Blasorchester, Kammer- und Orchestermusik, darunter die 1964 im VEB Breitkopf & Härtel Musikverlag Leipzig erschienene „Sinfonietta“ und das anlässlich eines Kompositionswettbewerbs des Verbands der Komponisten und Musikwissenschaftler zum 20. Jahrestag der DDR entstandene und ausgezeichnete „Quartettino 1969“ für Bläser. Die im gleichen Jahr entstandene Sonatine für Klarinette und Klavier „Temperamente“ ist bei leichter Klavierbegleitung besonders für fortgeschrittenere Musikschüler und Laienmusiker bestimmt.
Biographical note
From 1935 to 1939, Günter Habicht (1916–2010) studied with Herbert Viecenz and Boris Blacher (music theory and composition) and with Walther Meyer-Giesow and Ernst Hintze (conducting) at the Dresden Conservatory. After World War II, he spent some time in West Germany as a musician, laborer and temporarily without work. In 1949, he went to the GDR and initially worked as a dance musician in Pirna. In 1951, Günter Habicht taught at an elementary school in Leipzig, and in 1952, he was appointed specialist lecturer for music at the Zentralhaus für Volkskunst. From 1955 to 1981, he was a teacher of music theory and clarinet at the Leipzig City Music School.
In addition to music for folk instruments and contributions to educational literature, Günter Habicht wrote works for wind orchestra, chamber and orchestral music, including the “Sinfonietta”, published in 1964 by VEB Breitkopf & Härtel Musikverlag Leipzig, and the award-winning “Quartettino 1969” for wind instruments, created for a composition contest organized by the Association of Composers and Musicologists on the occasion of the GDR’s 20th anniversary. With an easy piano accompaniment, the sonatina for clarinet and piano “Temperaments”, written in the same year, is particularly aimed at more advanced music students and amateur musicians.
