Uniformed Services Diploma NCFE Level 3
Course Contact: Miss Eaton Assessment: 100% Coursework Progression: Preparation for Further Education entry This qualification is designed to provide pupils with an in-depth understanding of the principles of the uniformed services sector and to allow them to explore the various avenues of work within it. The qualification will also allow pupils to gain transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.
The qualification will: • Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge. • Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical work-related skills. • Allow pupils to progress to employment or further study and towards the entry qualifications and requirements of a specific uniformed service. • Provide the opportunity to investigate career opportunities in the uniformed services. • Prepare pupils for an interview. • Provide an understanding of the external organisations that impact on and influence the work of the uniformed services and how uniformed service organisations respond in emergency situations. • Provide the opportunity to understand and develop the skills and qualities needed to work in a range of organisations such as leadership skills, coaching skills, conflict management, personal protection, interpersonal skills, teamwork and communication. • Provide an appreciation for appropriate behaviour, dress and have personal manners and good deportment. • Provide and understanding of work practices and how different roles and departments function within an organisation.
How is the course structured and graded? To be successful on this course you will need to have achieved at least a C grade in GCSE English. The course is split into different units, ranging from preparing for a career in a chosen service to developing leadership skills. Pupils will have the opportunity to achieve up to 28 UCAS points. To aid with preparation for working life, in the second year it is anticipated that we will seek to gain additional external shorter qualifications such as Emergency First Aid, basic food hygiene and health and safety.
Will this course be suitable for me? The course is designed to give an understanding of the uniformed sector and an opportunity to investigate career opportunities. There are no formal entry requirements, although we would expect pupils to be involved in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
What could this course lead to? Pupils who achieve this qualification could progress to: Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes, Level 3 Diploma in Operational Delivery (Advanced), Level 3 Certificate in Knowledge of Policing, Public Service foundation degree, Higher apprenticeships and a BA in Public Services. In addition, pupils studying this qualification could lead to a career in sectors such as: management, public services, local or national government, justice and security.
