I’M BRECKLEN I am a Senior at Columbia College Chicago pursuing a BFA in Interior Architecture with a minor in Design Management. I have always had a strong passion for all things art and design, as well as a true appreciation for the unique stories that a space can tell.

Through thoughtful space planning and creative problem solving, I strive to create emotionally impactful designs. Designs that not only make you stop and think, but designs that encourage exploration and curiosity.

HARBOR HOUSE

Game Lounge Inspired by the simplicity of nature, Harbor House acts as a safe shelter for the community of Chicago’s Loop.

This multi-generational living community combines elements of nature to create a space that fosters creativity and community. Through its various tailored amenities, Harbor House welcomes everyone from all walks of life.

This project was completed with a partner and my responsibilities included; concept development as well as the design of the whole first floor and community spaces.

A four story 3,500 square foot building with three residential floors and one floor dedicated solely to community spaces. In addition to the first floor, each residential floor features a lounge space to encourage exploration and engagement amongst residents.

CORPORATE STANDARDS A study exploring the needs of three very distinct corporate clients.

Fashion Headquarters, NYC An up & coming fashion company in NYC with a small team of trendy workers whose office must be a reflection of their products.

Medical Office, IL Inspired by its’ natural surroundings, this office uses its location to provide a calming, yet elevated environment for patients.

Tech Start-Up, Seattle A team of fun, young workers who are launching their first tech company. They would like their office to be a reflection of the company’s lively personality.

NUULY 323 N. Clark, Chicago is home to Nuuly’s new corporate headquarters.

The available space provided the perfect canvas for this fashion subscription service to grow into. With a mission to encourage exploration, it’s no surprise that I designed a space that encourages exploration within the office space.

Scattered throughout the office are lounge spaces with both individual and group seating. These unexpected lounge areas encourage employees to move throughout the day, explore the office and discover something new. Different colored terrazzo is used to ground and differentiate these spaces.

FAIG AHMED Azerbaijan contemporary visual artist, Faig Ahmed is best known for his work with oriental rugs. Ahmed creates new visual boundaries by deconstructing traditions and stereotypes.

This project was completed with a partner and my responsibilities included conceptual design, schematic design and design development with a strong emphasis on interactive design.

Inspired by the cultural traditions of Ahmed’s work, this exhibition highlights the damaged & broken traditions while providing context for the preservation & re-creation of the traditions in your life.

Elevation View North

With a focus on traditions and an emphasis on creating your own, the central exhibition space serves as a reflection space for users to gather their own thoughts and work towards rebuilding their own traditions.

An oversized sculptural loom is the main focus in this space which not only represents the creation of carpets, but traditions as well.

A pegboard wall display gives users a chance to reflect on their experience by writing down their own traditions that they want to create or preserve and hanging it up for display.
