Sketched with ideas of clean lines, interconnection, minimalism, and unity in mind.

4: Color and Final Touches

Refined logo, added color, experimented with depth and line weight. The final logo successfully displays unity through strength, interconnectedness, and minimalism.

2: ChatGPT’s Response

“Merge the vivid colors of nature with the sleek lines of technology in a poster celebrating harmony between the organic and the digital world.”

3: Ideogram Generations

Entered ChatGPT prompt into AI Image generator Ideogram. Ideogram generated multiple images, and I chose the fourth option. It best demonstrates hierarchy and is the strongest overall design. This poster could easily be tweaked by a designer to communicate a variety of ideas.

2: Illustrator Edits

Cropped and traced image, corrected colors to Spot the Bot color palette. Added text in the Spot the Bot style.

Simplified the design’s color palette to 5 Spot the Bot colors. Added text with a drop shadow in the Spot the Bot style. Tweaked background to make text readable, and cropped overall design to fit a standard 18” x 24” poster size.

Chose to create a brand for a record company, as I enjoy design related to music, named brand Unlimited Records.

Added water-inspired organic shapes to match the brand identity. Created a strong hierarchy to inform viewers on the services Unlimited provides. Created and maintained a cohesive brand.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Summary

Spot the Bot opened my eyes to the possibilities of AI as a Design tool. I explored a multitude of different AI-based programs, learning all about the ever growing field. I believe that learning to incorporate AI programs into the Design process is essential for any designer. Questions do still need to be answered about the morality of AI programs sampling work, and where the line stands between inspiration and theft. It is our responsibility as Designers to properly credit creators who we sample and are inspired by.

When used ethically, Artificial Intelligence has the capability to replace repetitive processes that slow down the creative process. AI programs have the potential to redefine how designers think about ideation, image generation, color palette generation, typefaces, logos, layouts, illustration, and many other stages of the Design process. Designers that embrace the rise of new AI-based technologies will be at the forefront of pushing the Graphic Design discipline forward.
