TELL YOUR STORY/FIND YOUR VOICE: USING MEMORY TO ENTER THE NARRATIVE ARC

We write to tell our story and to communicate an idea or a narrative arc and framework. How does memory inform our writing, and what creates a defining moment in our lives and in the creative work— poetry or creative non-fiction? Our relationship to language starts with pictures, objects, and symbols. How do we amplify these pivotal connections in our work—through all the elements of style: tone, voice, image, point of view, rhythm, and cadence? How do objects in our world trigger memory and set the creative process in motion? Yes, the pen has magic, and you will learn tips to craft, hone, and shape your prose or the poem. Discussions will be amplified by other writers’ work. The workshop format will engage participants in discussion of peer work, in a friendly atmosphere aiming towards revision and publication. Bring a favorite journal and pen, with your imagination.
