College of the Ozarks celebrates Veterans’ Week with Sunrise Service and Reading of Names POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — College of the Ozarks held two patriotic events to honor Veterans on Nov. 11, 2020. The College was honored to host annual events for students and invite Veterans to experience Patriots Park. The annual Veterans Day Sunrise Flag Raising Service was held on Nov. 11 at 7 a.m. at the Williams Memorial Chapel flagpole. The Military Science department and the Bobcat GOLD program organized the service. Officer Candidate Gabe Greco served as the master of ceremonies. The flag raising detail was accompanied with “Reveille” by Sergeant Major (Retired) Bob Smither after the firing of a 75mm Howitzer cannon by Col. James Schreffler, associate professor of military science at College of the Ozarks and commanding officer, SEE VETERANS’ WEEK, PAGE 13

Prizes Awarded to local fifth grade students in a writing contest Natalie Marshall and Haven Howard enjoyed presenting the awards to the winning students in the “What does it mean to be patriotic?” essay contest for Taney County fifth graders. This was sponsored by Taney County Federated Republican Women in accordance with the Laura Bush Literacy Campaign.

First place $50 awards went to Adriana Lopez and her teacher, Krista Head, from Cedar Ridge Intermediate. The two runners up were Oskar Arjes and Ben Howell who each received a $10 award. A pizza party was also given to Adriana’s class! SEE PRIZES, PAGE 8
