FPHS Names New Coach

The Fort Payne High School football program will have a new coach this fall. According to reports, the Wildcats have hired Chris Elmore to lead the FPHS football team. Elmore is replacing former coach Paul Ellis, who spent 14 years leading the program. Ellis resigned to become coach at LaFayette High School. Elmore is a 1999 graduate of FPHS.

Logano Wins in Talladega

Joey Logano took time to sign a toy car for a fan during race weekend in Talladega. Logano took the checkered flag on Sunday, April 29. It was his 3rd win in Talladega.

AVIATION COLLEGE Albertville Mayor Tracy Honea discusses Snead State Community College’s new Aviation Program that is located at the Albertville airport. The college plans to teach both Powerplant and Airframe. For more about the aviation program see Page 8.

By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Being a coach is more then just knowing what play to call or which athletes should be in the starting lineup. It’s more about leading, guiding and encouraging young men and women to work together as a team to become better both on and off the playing surface. This past year one local coach achieved that goal and much more as he led the Plainview Bears to the Class 3A State Championship. For his efforts, Robi Coker has been named the 2018 Ledger Leader Coach of the Year “I feel extremely blessed to be in this circle with such an outstanding group of young men,” said Coker “A group of guys that sacrificed personal ambition for the betterment of the team in such a selfless manner. They

Coach Robi Coker really enjoyed one another and exemplified our “Band of Brothers” mantra throughout the course of the season. They’re extremely competitive and men of grit who figured out a way to win. They deserve all the glory and honors they have received.” Plainview shattered the AHSAA record for 3-point shots attempted and made this season and it seemed only fitting that the Bears would sink a trey to win its first-ever ASHAA state basketball championship. _Continued on Page11
