MAJOR SURVEY Brandon Jones, Breydon Horton, Jacob Owen, Kala Pleasant and Seth Carr

Executive summary ● This report is composed of an analysis of the level of satisfaction and value of the annual communication banquet from the perspective of students currently majoring in communications at the University of Tennessee at Martin. ● Survey of a representative convenience sample as well as a likert scale which included elements of measurements for students to express their specific level of satisfaction for different questions of value. ● The report concluded with the analyzing of the data that it would ideal for action to be taken to make changes of the banquet that accommodate and satisfy the needs of students in the communication department.

Executive summary (cont.) ● Communication students were presented the survey during their advising sessions in preparation for the Spring semester. ●

21 total questions - 11 demographical and 10 likert scale

● Number of Participants (%): ○ 80 out of 133 total communication majors (60%) ○ 34 out of 80 participants have actually attended the banquet (~43%) ○ 35 out of 51 Public Relations majors (~69%) ○ 22 out of 55 Broadcast majors (40%) ○ 11 out of 17 Media Design majors (64%) ○ 6 out of 10 Journalism majors (60%) ○ 6 participants were more than one sequence/double major

DATA FINDINGS ●

Cross tabbing was heavily used in sifting through our data.

The graphs detailed the levels of responses.

●

Limitations were found in the raw data which skewed some of the results.

●

Only 34 of the respondents have attended the Comm. banquet.

●

Survey administration issues (not getting surveys, broadcasting)

Responses were heavily neutral (possibly due to such low rates of banquet attendance in the respondents).
