“It’s time for the business community to step up and partner with the city to locate and create a safer space for parking,” Councilwoman Julie Lythcott-Haims said during Monday’s council meeting. Council passed a ban to make it

New board leaders differed on votes

Schools and businesses in West Menlo Park were under lockdown for about two hours yesterday while police responded to a call of a man with a gun down the street from two schools. Police received calls reporting a man with a gun was in the 2200 block of Avy Avenue at 12:30 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Nicole Acker. Officers from Menlo Park, Atherton and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office flooded the neighborhood. Police used drones to locate the man and found that he matched the description of a missing man who was suicidal from outside of San Mateo County, Acker said. La Entrada and Philips Brooks campuses in West Menlo Park were ordered to lockdown at 12:38 p.m., Acker said.
