JAMAICAN CHRISTMAS FOOD Good food is a staple of every Jamaican Christmas. Jamaica might be popular for its stunning beaches and music, but it is also home to delicious food.

B R E A K FA S T The traditional Jamaican breakfast is ackee and saltfish. This is the national dish and is usually served alongside breadfruit that can either be roasted or fried.

DINNER Christmas dinner in Jamaica would not be complete without Christmas ham.

The ham is prepared in a Caribbean style and served with cloves, cherries and pineapple slices.

For households that are not keen on pork, oven baked chicken, oxtail, fish and curried goat are common choices for a Jamaican Christmas dinner.

When it comes to side dishes, rice with red kidney beans is commonplace. For Christmas, the red kidney beans are often swapped out for gungo peas.

DESSERTS A traditional sweet treat for a Jamaican Christmas is a fruit cake. The cake is full of Jamaican spices and fruit that is soaked in rum for up to a year before the cake is made.

DRINKS Sorrel is the most popular drink at Christmas in Jamaica. Sorrel is made using the roselle, a type of hibiscus flower brought to Jamaica with the slaves. The flowers are dried, then boiled with ginger. Extra spices are added, and the drink is served with ice and a splash of white rum.
