WPC The Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) established in 1952, is Wing of the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, it is the national radio governing nodal agency of the Indian Government. It is responsible for planning, regulating, and managing the limited resources of Radio Frequency spectrum and associated satellite orbits, including geo-stationary satellite orbit as well as licensing of wireless stations. It serves the needs of all wireless users in the country, government or private, security or non-security. It’s a Safety certifications process for verifying all necessary compliance required in order for a product to be sold legally. Just because a manufacturer created a consumer electronic device, doesn’t mean that they can immediately go to market. There are many requirements to be met before a product is considered safe and certified.

ETA For the selling and use of electronic equipments in the Indian Telecom Network, WPC( Wireless Planning & coordination), which is responsible for planning, regulating, and managing the limited resources of Radio Frequency spectrum and associated satellite orbits, including geo-stationary satellite orbit as well as licensing of wireless stations has legitimize ETA ( equipment type approval) certification to certain equipments. All the equipment’s which work in the Nonlicensed frequency bands, shall be type approved and designed and constructed in such a manner that the bandwidth of emission, power and other parameters shall conform to the limits specified various notifications in this regard. For outdoor applications, in case the top of Antenna is more than 5 meters beyond the existing roof top, then clearance of this antenna site is required to be approved by the Standing Advisory Committee on Frequency Allocations (SACFA), and clearance obtained accordingly. For this, requisite application is to be submitted separately, using the on-line facility available.

The application should be submitted along with a complete copy of Radio Test Report, carried out on the product. The application for obtaining equipment type approval shall be made to the Wireless Adviser to the address- Govt. of India, 6th Floor, Sanchar Bhavan, and New Delhi-110001 in the format available on the official website.

The Equipment Type Approval shall be granted to both Indian and Foreign companies but only in the name of Indian agency and not in the name of any foreign manufacture. It is also essential to submit a certificate of authorization from the manufacturer, authorizing the Indian agency to act as their representative of local.

WPC Approval Process The Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) is a branch of the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, It is the national radio governing nodal agency of the Indian Government. Approval is established on analysis of foreign standard test reports and consent certificates. Radio devices operating in licensed frequency bands require a separate set of licenses.WPC approvals are required by various import companies for acquisition of foreign electronic wireless products. Any wireless transmission less than 3000 GHz and without the use of artificial guide is considered as “Wireless Communication� and is controlled by the WPC. The local interpretive are supposed to obtain a license from the wireless planning commission. In order to provide these WPC Approvals the said firms are monitored completely and then it is processed.

The department is responsible for issuing amateur radio licenses and allotting the frequency spectrum and monitoring the frequency spectrum. Documents and Fee Required for WPC (ETA) Approval The customer, who wishes to obtain WPC for devices with radio, needs to provide the following: • Either FCC or ETSI Test report for Product with Radio which shows the Radio test results • The testing must have been conducted in a ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Laboratory • Need the test laboratory’s accreditation certificate copy • User Manual • Completed application form (We can help complete the same based on the test report, user manual and technical information) Once the certificate is issued, the local importer also needs to apply for obtaining an import license. The process of obtaining the WPC certification will be anywhere between 1 week to 1-month dependent upon availability of documents.

Government fee for WPC approval per model per frequency is INR 10000. Whereas, Charges of Indian consultancy varies from project to project. Total cost per model per frequency is expected to be USD 1000 (INR 64270) approximately.
