CHOCOLATE & COCOA MANUFACTURER DP Cocoa Products Pvt. Limited is one of the leading Cocoa & Chocolate manufacturers in India for over a decade. The company supplies cocoa & chocolate ingredients to large FMCG companies & also sells chocolate & cocoa products under the 2M brand to foodservice industries. DP chocolates commenced its operations in May 2007 in a 25,000 SFT premise that has grown to 3 units at Baddi, in the Northern part of India & 1 large upcoming unit at Sri-city in the Southern part of India. The company is the leading cocoa bean processor in India, with a capacity of 12,000 MT per year.

The company was established primarily to cater cocoa product needs of Mondelez (Kraft Cadbury). In addition to this, its customers include leading biscuit manufacturers, ice-cream manufacturers, Industrial & consumer chocolate manufacturers, etc. The company has been exporting cocoa butter to U.S and Europe since its inception. To ensure quality, the company has beans procurement centers to procure directly from farmers in India.

Quality Certifications: The site has been approved by Mondelez global auditors, and the site is accredited with FSSC 22000:2013, including ISO 22000:2005, ISO/TS22002-1, and additional FSSC 22000.

THE STORY OF AN INVESTMENT

BANKER TURNED CHOCOLATIER Mr. D. Durga Prasad, founder & MD of the company, who worked at ACC Ltd., a large cement manufacturing company in UAE as a CFO, came back to India and acquired a 40% equity stake in a chocolate company called Lotus Chocolate Company Ltd. (Lotus) which was struggling at that moment being almost bankrupt and needed revival. Durga Prasad, with his vast experience & expertise in M&As and project expansions, managed to turn around the company into a profitable entity within 2 years. At Lotus, about 60% of the total capacity was being used for contract manufacturing for Cadbury India Ltd. (CIL). The manufacturing unit used the balance capacity to make its brand of industrial & consumer chocolates. Impressed by the performance and ability of Mr. Durga Prasad, CIL invited him to set up a greenfield cocoa bean processing plant at Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) close to CIL's plant, which eventually resulted in the setting up of DP Cocoa Products LLP (formerly DP Cocoa Products Pvt. Ltd. (DPCLLP) which primarily undertakes contract processing for CIL with some spare capacity for independent cocoa bean processing for DP Chocolates (DPC). DPCLLP managed to also turn profitable within 2 years of its existence, one led to another, and a simple turnaround project turned into a passion for chocolate that led to the development of its own brand, 2M, in 2009. Under the brand 2M, the company manufactures and caters industrial chocolates of professional range to large confectionery, biscuits & ice cream manufacturers, and bakeries & foodservice Industry. Passion for chocolates made a simple investment banker turn into the most respected chocolate manufacturer in India today.

DP Chocolates, over its existence since 2003, has grown into 2 units of chocolate with 22000MT/yr capacity & 1 unit of 10,000 MT/yr capacity of cocoa bean processing. A 4th unit is being constructed in the South of India with a capacity of 12,000T/ yr, which will be commissioned by the second half of 2021.
