Early Sketch of Trailhead Pocket Park
Middle Fork Greenway Trailhead
Whose Project: Mosaic Civic Studio. Subcontracted to collaborate with Mosaic Civic Studio to further an existing design and create a planting plan and a construction plan set.
Duration: September 2018 - March 2019
A trailhead pocket park for a 6.5 mi trail connecting Blowing Rock to Boone, North Carolina. The park is situated on a leftover remnant of land from a highway reconstruction project that was transformed into a destination where trail goers can rendezvous and reference trail information before beginning an adventure on the greenway trail system. With multi-modal pedestrian transport in mind, this park is easily accessible from three different access points and provides healthy access to the beautiful natural environment of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
In 2021, the Trailhead was recognized with the Great Place Award by the APA-NC

In contrast to the back of this residence, which has vast views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the front of this residence is low in elevation and smaller in scale. The landscape design in the front of the residence carves niches and pathways out of the existing hillside to create private, intimate spaces. The stone on the facade of the residence extends into the landscape to define the walls of the gardens and to create a privacy barrier from the road above. Mature, native plant material and indigenous building materials celebrate the beauty of the natural landscape.

Modern Mountaintop Residence
Whose Project: Greenleaf Services, Inc. - New Construction
Duration: 2015
Location: Blowing Rock, NC
A summer home perched on top of a mountain, this residence had a challenging situation with negative stormwater drainage. However, a site constraint became a design opportunity with creation of a dry swale and stone slab bridge leading to the entry. Mostly native/nativar shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses soften the hardscape and provide the gorgeous color palette of the landscape.

A year-round residence located on Grandfather Golf and Country Club’s golf course. The hard and softscape of this mountain home in Linville, NC was reimagined to create purposeful spaces and timeless, cohesive design . The landscape design includes a secluded garden room and a sinous stepping stone pathway around the back of the residence leading to the golf course by way of a rustic locust bridge. The pathway continues on through the threshold of a rustic arbor and opens up into a large perennial garden that can be viewed from the patio above it.

A Charleston inspired forever-home just off of the historic Blue Ridge Parkway. The landscape design echoes the formality of the residence. The building materials and patterns of the building materials are extended into the landscape to create spaces for different activities and to achieve a cohesive design. The design includes a circular drive, a walled garden bursting at the seams with blooms, a patio seating area and a lushly planted atrium.
