Prepositions of place is a preposition which is used to refer to a place where something or someone is located.
A preposition of place which is used to discuss a certain point
A preposition of place which is used to discuss an enclosed space
A preposition of time which is used to discuss a surface
The mall is located at the intersection of Main Street and Third Avenue.
I’m growing tomatoes in my garden.
Please place the bouquet on the table.
We can use “in” when describing something inside. We can also use this preposition when we talking about locations in a larger area and workplaces when we see them as a physical location.
Ex.There is some paper in the litter box.
We can use “at” to referring a position or location which we see as a point and when we talking about locations at workplaces.
At” can be used when we describe activities involving a group of people and with phrases which relate to school, college and university.
Ex. The shop is at the end of the street.
We can use “ on ” to referring a position on any surface and describing a position along a road or river or by the sea or by a lake.
“On” can be used when we talking about a floor. We can also use this preposition in reference to public transport. .
Ex. There is a bee on the table.
A preposition can provide us with information on the relationship between two words within a sentence, one such relationship is the placement of an object. For example, ‘the dog was in front of the window.’ This shows where the dog is and allows us to understand what is being talked about more clearly.
Meaning: At or to a higher place or position than something/somebody
Example: Our friends in the apartment above us are really noisy.
Meaning: One follows the other
Example: He ran after her with the book.
Meaning: Near or at the side of
Example: The telephone is by the window.
Meaning: Under someone or something
Example: Johan hid the letter beneath a pile of papers.
Meaning: At the side of someone or something
Example: -We lay beside the pool to dry off in the sun.
-The hotel is situated next to the lively bustling port.
Near/ Close to is a short distance from a person or thing
Example: There is a bush near the school playground. The new shopping center is close to the railway station.
Example: There is a gulf between the two cities.
Meaning: In the middle of or surrounded by other people or things
Example:The girl quickly disappeared among the crowd.
Prepositions of place are prepositions that help us to localize or determine a specific place of someone or something.
Learning all the preposition of place and rules, we can increase our oral production and developing a better communication.
