ICE FISHING EXTRAVAGANZA
DIVE You might not think of the Brainerd Lakes Area as a scuba diving destination, but the Cuyuna Lakes are considered some of the best diving in the Midwest. These lakes were once mine pits and now offer some of the clearest visibility (30–50 ft)! When diving, you can see old mining equipment that was left. You’ll also see a variety of aquatic wildlife.

The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza is the world’s largest ice fishing contest, and something you should experience first-hand. 20,000 holes are drilled in anticipation of this monster event. The ice fishing contest is held the end of January (2022 date not announced as of this writing) at Hole in the Day Bay on Gull Lake. This event raises $150,000 for local charities, so the contest is for a good cause. You can win fish houses, four-wheelers, vacation packages, and more. Whether you win or not, you’ll have an experience like no other!
