Second generation Grillo takes over MN Hockey Camps Chuck Grillo and his son, Dean, sat back in their Minnesota Hockey Camps office one fall afternoon and reflected on the history of their Minnewawa Lodge facility on Clark Lake in Nisswa. Chuck and Dean, along with other family members and staff, had just finished another busy summer season. Things had slowed enough to take a short break to reflect on four decades of service as a developmental hockey camp for skaters around the world. The camp started in 1979, and Chuck remembers the details of how it became

a reality. After a successful high school hockey coaching career, Chuck had become a National Hockey League scout for the New York Rangers. He still lived in northern Minnesota and wanted to establish a developmental hockey camp for boys and girls. His business partner would be Herb Brooks, who was coaching the Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team and later the 1980 Miracle On Ice U.S. Olympic team. “I ran into the (Minnewawa Lodge) owner at Bar Harbor, and asked if the
